Our History

Tabu was founded by Fernando Heras in 2006: a new production facility aimed to manufacture sustainable furniture to service the ongoing sourcing and quality control business that had been running since 1998.

Tabu’s factory is located in Solo, Central Java, a strategic manufacturing hub known for its wood-crafting tradition. Our showroom and sales office are located in Bali, where our designers and sales team are in constant touch with the market and follow the latest design trends.

Our business has grown sustainably over the years thanks to our portfolio of long-term clients. We have continuously invested in our production assets and have maintained our initial core, managing to supply high-quality, sustainable furniture to some of the world’s largest retailers and developers.

From first contact to order delivery, our Enterprise Resource Planner classifies and channels information gathered from different sources to provide an accurate view of the production status, making sure that our divisions move in a synergetic and efficient way.

Technology helps us manage our supply chain and track raw materials, allowing us to keep a complete record of every movement. If we spot a quality control issue, we can accurately trace each component back to the source to make sure we consistently deliver our best quality.

From Local To Global

Our raw materials are sourced locally, with the exception of certain machinery, leather dyes and pigments, and some technical fabrics. Our timber, veg-tan leather, rattan, brass, canvas, glass, paper cord, and the core of our raw materials are entirely handpicked from our local network of suppliers. We take pride in assisting the development of the local community by working closely with our partners and enabling them to grow with us. In return, we enjoy a good level of control and agility on our supply chain, having the possibility to closely monitor quality throughout.

In terms of service to our clients, we provide Material knowledge, flexibility in both prototyping and mass production, consistent quality, controlled lead times and a set of resources that allows us to overcome a wide range of manufacturing challenges.
