Senior/Lead PHP Developer (Symfony, English)

Job description

• Design, test, and maintain robust PHP applications that meet business and technical requirements.
• Produce clean and maintainable code while adhering to coding standards, security best practices, and software engineering principles.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable architectures and integration solutions.
• Implement automated testing, code quality controls, and CI/CD practices to ensure reliable software delivery.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to application performance, system integrations, databases, and production environments.
• Optimize application performance through caching, database tuning, and system monitoring.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture decisions to continuously improve product quality.
• Research, evaluate, and adopt new technologies and best practices to enhance development processes and technical capabilities.
• Mentor and support team members in solution design and coding issues; and evaluate their performance.

Desired Skills and Experience

• 5+ years’ experience in PHP 8.x development (ideally 8.4/8.5) and OOP, applying modern architecture concepts (dependency injection, service containers, event-driven design, modular components, and middleware pipelines).
• Proficient in Symfony (5.4 up to 7.4) to build scalable and high-performance applications.
• Hands-on experience with testing and code quality tools: PHPUnit, PHPStan, PHP CS Fixer, and Sonar.
• Solid understanding of web technologies and HTTP protocols, including CORS, HTTP headers, authentication, authorization, API communication standards, and web application security best practices.
• Comfortable working on macOS/Linux with shell and CLI tools.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs, microservices, and API-first solutions in distributed environments.
• Strong skills in performance optimization and caching strategies (Redis, HTTP caching); experience with Varnish, Nginx, or PHP-FPM is a plus.
• Understanding of application architecture, design patterns, and best practices (clean code, SOLID; DDD and CQRS are a plus).
• Experience with relational databases (MariaDB/MariastgreSQL), including database management, query optimization, schema design, and data import/export.
• Experience working with Docker, FrankenPHP, MariaDB, Redis, and AWS services.
• Familiar with Jira, Confluence, GitHub and CI/CD workflows.
• Good communication in English, written and spoken.
• Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically while staying hands-on.
• Nice-to-have skills:
• Exposure to MuleSoft integration platform.
