The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, updating, and controlling project schedules to ensure that construction, MEP, and fit-out works are completed on time and in accordance with the approved project program.
The Planning Engineer will work closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, Site Engineers, QS/Commercial team, Procurement, subcontractors, consultants, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning
• Develop detailed project baseline schedules based on contract requirements, drawings, BOQ, specifications, and construction methodology.
• Prepare project master schedules and detailed construction programs.
• Develop WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) and activity schedules.
• Establish activity sequences, durations, dependencies, milestones, and critical paths.
• Prepare resource-loaded schedules where required.
• Coordinate with project teams to establish realistic activity durations and construction sequences.
• Incorporate procurement, material delivery, approvals, inspections, testing, and commissioning activities into the schedule.
Schedule Monitoring & Control
• Monitor actual progress against the approved baseline program.
• Collect daily and weekly progress information from site teams.
• Update project schedules regularly.
• Identify delays, slippages, critical activities, and potential impacts on project completion.
• Prepare progress reports, S-curves, look-ahead schedules, and progress dashboards.
• Analyze planned vs. actual progress.
• Identify the critical path and activities affecting project completion.
• Recommend recovery and mitigation measures for delayed activities.
• Monitor subcontractor schedules and performance.
Reporting
• Prepare weekly and monthly project progress reports.
• Prepare 2-week, 3-week, and/or 4-week look-ahead programs.
• Prepare S-curves and progress charts.
• Prepare manpower and productivity reports.
• Prepare management reports showing schedule status, delays, risks, and recovery actions.
• Provide schedule updates to the Project Manager and senior management.
• Support preparation of client and consultant progress presentations.
Procurement & Material Planning
• Coordinate with Procurement to monitor long-lead materials and equipment.
• Track material approval, purchase order, manufacturing, shipment, delivery, and installation dates.
• Identify procurement activities that could affect the project schedule.
• Maintain procurement schedules and delivery trackers.
Delay & Recovery Management
• Identify causes of delay and document their impact on the project.
• Prepare delay analysis and recovery programs.
• Develop mitigation and acceleration schedules.
• Assist the Project Manager and QS/Commercial team with Extension of Time (EOT) and delay claims.
• Maintain records of delay events, instructions, approvals, site conditions, and correspondence.
• Compare approved baseline, current program, and actual progress.
Coordination
• Attend project progress meetings with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Coordinate with Construction, MEP, QS, Procurement, Design, and QA/QC teams.
• Ensure all project stakeholders understand key milestones and deadlines.
• Follow up outstanding activities and action items affecting the schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of planning/scheduling experience in construction, MEP, interior fit-out, hotel, commercial, or industrial projects.
• Strong experience with Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Good understanding of construction methodology and project sequencing.
• Knowledge of critical path, WBS, baseline schedules, resource planning, S-curves, and progress measurement.
• Experience preparing weekly/monthly progress reports and look-ahead programs.
• Knowledge of delay analysis and EOT claims is an advantage.
• Bilingual Vietnamese and English, with good written and spoken English.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict project deadlines.
Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: Negotiation (from VND25 - 30M Gross)
• 13th month bonus/business bonus follow company policy
• Work schedule: From Monday to Saturday (8AM – 5.00PM)
• Location: Nguyen Huu Canh St., Sai Gon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City
