About Autonomous
Autonomous is an AI hardware workshop. Two of its AI hardware products:
- Harness Pro: a small desk screen that plugs into your Mac over USB-C and shows every AI agent (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and more) running across your machines. Inside: an ESP32-P4, a 720 × 720 square touch display, three microphones and a CNC aluminum housing.
- Lamp: a fully assembled, open-source robotic desk lamp that gives AI agents eyes, ears, a voice and a body that moves. It has 5 position-feedback servos, a wide-angle camera, a microphone array and stereo speakers, and runs the open-source
Autonomous OS also lists Harness Device, Autonomous Computer 2, WorkPod, Desk Pro, ErgoChair Pro and Toys.
What you'll do
- Draw schematics and lay out PCBs, from prototype to production
- Design power: USB-C, DC, battery, converters and protection.•Write firmware for ESP32/STM32-class microcontrollers
- Bring up new boards, test and measure, and find and fix hardware faults.
- Work with PCB/PCBA factories: production files, BOM, sample checks and fixing issues in production.
Requirements
- About 3 to 5 years of hands-on hardware work: schematics, PCB layout, power design.
- Firmware written for ESP32, STM32 or similar microcontrollers.
- You bring up and debug boards yourself with an oscilloscope, multimeter and bench supply.
- Experience working with PCB/PCBA factories or suppliers.
- You have been the main person responsible for at least one board or product from design to production; at a company counts, it need not be your own product.
- Fast learners who are early in their career are welcome to apply.
Nice to have
- You use, or want to use, AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor…) every day; the interview includes a short hands-on exercise.
- You have taken a hardware product into mass production.
- Experience with USB, audio (mics, speakers), displays, cameras or motor/servo control.
- Open-source or personal hardware projects we can look at.
