Job Overview: Assistant Manager, Ocean Pricing will oversee and develop pricing strategies for ocean freight services, ensuring competitiveness and alignment with global procurement strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate pricing inquiries from overseas offices and global network partners for import/export shipments.
- Analyze freight market trends, carrier rate movements, and space availability to provide competitive pricing intelligence.
- Prepare and update monthly ocean freight rate sheets in coordination with the sales team and management.
- Maintain a weekly dashboard/report covering inquiry volume, quoted port pairs, conversion ratio, and key opportunities.
- Develop and offer logistics solutions for complex shipments, including OOG (Out of Gauge), breakbulk, and project cargo.
- Expand business coverage by diversifying trade lanes beyond core regions (India, Middle East) into new port pairs and markets.
- Liaise with shipping lines, NVOCCs, and co-loaders to negotiate competitive rates, space commitments, and service contracts.
- Monitor and manage rate validity, surcharges (BAF, CAF, PSS, GRI), and carrier updates to ensure accurate quotations.
- Support sales team by providing quick turnaround quotations (RFQs/RFIs) and customized pricing solutions for key accounts.
- Evaluate carrier performance (transit time, reliability, equipment availability) to recommend optimal routing options.
- Coordinate with operations and documentation teams to ensure pricing feasibility and service deliverability.
- Identify cost optimization opportunities and suggest improved pricing strategies to enhance margin profitability.
- Participate in tender/bid submissions by preparing competitive pricing and market justification.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with overseas agents and partners to improve response time and win ratio.
- Track and analyze win/loss ratio of quotations to refine pricing strategy and improve conversion rates.
- Stay updated on industry developments (capacity changes, blank sailings, geopolitical impacts, port congestion) and reflect in pricing.
- Ensure compliance with company pricing policies, credit terms, and risk guidelines.
- Support management with ad hoc reports, analysis, and strategic insights related to ocean freight pricing.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, or a related field.
- Experience: 5 -10 years of experience in ocean freight pricing or related roles within the freight forwarding, shipping, or logistics industry. Experience with multinational companies (MNCs) is preferred.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of ocean freight products and pricing strategies.
- Skills: Strong project management and negotiation skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Effective communication skills in English and Thai.
- Experience in handling DG/HAZ shipments is preferred.
- Strong market intelligence and knowledge of trade lanes, market trends, freight rates, and competitor activities.
