HR DISTRICT EIGHT

Job description for Visual Merchandiser / Art Director at District Eight

Key Responsibilities

1. Art Direction & Visual Identity

– Define and maintain the visual language across all outputs for both brands, keeping their positioning distinct (District Eight as OBM; Root and Branch as ODM).

– Lead campaign visuals, product storytelling and brand presentations; ensure consistency across digital, print and spatial applications.

2. 2D Creative Production

– Oversee and produce catalogues, lookbooks, presentations, social and marketing assets, and sales/trade tools.

– Direct graphic designers and freelancers to deliver on time and on standard.

3. 3D Rendering & Visualisation

– Direct and/or produce 3D renderings for products, interior scenes and dealer proposals.

– Ensure renders are true to real materials, lighting and brand tone, working with Product and Technical teams for accuracy.

4. Showroom, Dealer & Visual Merchandising

– Lead visual merchandising for District Eight showrooms and dealer/distributor showrooms: product layout and zoning, styling, object curation, and seasonal updates.

– Support the Milan showroom (within ~6 months) and Hà Nội showroom (within ~12 months) openings — design language, layout, styling and on-site setup.

5. Interior Arrangement & Spatial Styling

– Develop interior concepts for showrooms, dealer setups and exhibition spaces; adapt layouts to different markets.

– Balance aesthetics with commercial functionality so spaces support conversion, not just imagery.

6. Tradeshow & Exhibition Direction

– Design and art-direct tradeshow and exhibition booths for international and regional fairs, coordinating build, logistics and product selection.

7. Photography Direction

– Art-direct and/or execute product, lifestyle and campaign photography; manage photographers, stylists and external teams to brand standard.

8. Cross-Functional Collaboration

– Partner with Marketing (campaigns, calendar), Product (accuracy, materials, launches) and Sales (dealer presentations, showroom support) to serve commercial objectives through visual storytelling.

Requirements

Non-negotiable for this role

– Formal interior design, spatial design or architecture background (degree or equivalent professional track record) — this is a spatial role, not a graphics-only role.

– Demonstrated experience designing and styling physical retail / showroom environments, not only 2D assets.

– Material literacy in premium furniture materials — oak and timber, stone, metal, leather, fabrics and considered finishes — with the judgement to art-direct them faithfully.

Experience

– 5+ years in Art Direction and/or Visual Merchandising, ideally in furniture, interior or lifestyle brands.

– Proven delivery of showroom, booth or exhibition environments from concept to on-site execution.

Skills

– Strong eye for composition, materiality and spatial design.

– Adobe Creative Suite (PS, AI, ID) and 3D tools (3ds Max, Blender, SketchUp or similar); understanding of lighting and rendering realism.

– Able to translate brand identity into both graphics and space, and to move between concept and hands-on execution.

Mindset

– Reserved, design-literate taste aligned with the brand; commercially aware of how visuals support sales.

– Structured; manages multiple 2D, 3D and spatial outputs in parallel; comfortable working within a defined brand-approval model.

Success Metrics

– Consistency and quality of brand visuals across all channels and both brands.

– Effectiveness of showroom, dealer and tradeshow layouts on client engagement and conversion.

– On-time, on-standard delivery of 2D and 3D assets.

– Readiness and quality of the Milan and Hà Nội showroom environments.
