Job Description:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and patient Portuguese Teacher to lead beginner-level Portuguese language classes at our summer camp. Lessons run in 50-minute periods and must be active, engaging, and age-appropriate for campers (e.g., ages 6–14). The focus is on basic Japanese vocabulary, phrases, and cultural activities—not academic instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver two to three 50-minute Japanese periods per day (or more, depending on camp structure).
Teach beginner content including:
- Greetings, self-introductions
- Numbers, colors, basic objects
- Simple phrases (please, thank you, excuse me)
- Basic pronunciation (alphabet sounds, common words)
Use games, songs, TPR (Total Physical Response), flashcards, and role-play.
Adapt the same 50-minute lesson for different age groups.
Collaborate with other staff to reinforce Portuguese themes across camp.
Follow all safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
Requirements:
Portuguese proficiency: Minimum CEFR A2 or equivalent (conversational ability for everyday topics). European Portuguese (Portugal) or Brazilian Portuguese – please specify which dialect your camp prefers.
Teaching experience: At least 1 year teaching Portuguese to children, teens, or beginners.
Classroom management: Ability to keep 50-minute periods structured, active, and on-time.
