Job description for System Engineer at Newfold Digital
The System Engineer is responsible for maintenance, management and application of technological advancements, solutions and updates of internal systems within the organisation.
Through comprehensive and strategic research and development, you will drive collaboration with other teams and departments to design, plan, develop and implement systems, products, initiatives and projects which deliver optimisation to and through the organisation.
You will also provide R&D solutions to improve existing services alongside new services that can potentially improve company communication\collaboration\etc.
Primary Role Responsibilities
- Administer server environments, including supporting vary specific enterprise technologies, clustering, load balancing, CDN, replication, web services, databases, CM tools, and other networking and management services,
- Assist all the admin levels to ensure 24/7/365 availability of servers, systems and related infrastructure with a customer orientated focus, whether for internal or customer facing systems,
- Plan, manage and conduct research into new technologies, software, infrastructure, industry trends with a focus towards applying innovation to current and future organisation standards,
- Work with highly-loaded systems, ensure the stable operation of all in-house server systems, storage platforms and network connections, to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications,
- Implement an aligned infrastructure and technological stack and strategy focused on efficient operations across the organisation,
- Collaborate with other departments to adequately keep track and report cross projects & tasks to ensure the best value and quality of an effort.
- Develop, maintain and optimise applicable policies and processes with relation to infrastructure requirements and delivery across the organisation including data centers and offices.
- Adequately document, track and record service tags, installation dates, warranty periods, etc. to all existing and new assets in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Provide the documentation related to all aspects of covered area to make it available and applicable for typical cases and keep it up-to-date.
- Conduct the necessary planning, scoping and specification of resources, infrastructure and other items to implement projects ensuring the collection of respective metrics to adequately report on results in line with any KPIs, goals or objectives applied to the project,
- Responsibility in creating of the post-mortem report for major incidents in a timely manner and with appropriate details and actions,
- Receive, communicate and escalate any stakeholder concerns and issues.
- Constantly be a mentor of levels below in helping in improving their skill set and knowledge, related to the organisation products,
- Ensure regular contribution to the documentation process of every single team-player in line with KPI.
Other Responsibilities
- Keep up to date with latest technologies and industry trends ensuring adequate research, review, development and testing of any new technologies or products,
- Participate in all discussions related to vendor\hardware changing to provide an expert opinion for further orders,
- Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets,
- Develop technical specifications and business cases to support new service acquisitions,
- Develop, maintain and optimise applicable processes with relation to infrastructure requirements and delivery across the organisation,
- Apply a strategic and structured approach to research utilising lab testing, proof of concept, internal and external trials as well as a consultative approach involving respective stakeholders to deliver quantitative and detailed reports
- Lead in delivering of large-scale projects across multiple geographic regions as and when required,
- Conduct the basic planning, ensuring the collection of respective metrics to ensure best solutions, applied to the project,
- Follow internal policies and procedures with appropriate reporting and management of outages,
- Ensure stakeholder communication and escalation as required with relation to any outages, updates, deployment, provisioning and other respective actions,
- Act as the go-to contact for major incidents, provide the updates to management and support staff on progress and actions taken/planned in line with reporting KPIs.
- Ensure the company conducts business in an ethical manner and not placing any stakeholder in a position of risk
- Engage sufficiently to all escalation with 24/7 availability to support stakeholders, whether customers or internal staff, taking adequate ownership of applicable issues,
- Efficiently implement any project requirements of other teams or departments with a focus on clear communication,
- Evaluation of technical requirements to ensure solutions meet requirements and performance goals of the organisation,
- Maintain a consistent focus towards keeping on top of new technologies, standards and approaches, providing research, review, development and testing where required,
- Consistently maintain and evolve documentation for systems and processes,
- Assist senior management in creating (and create by yourself) and enforcing policies, procedures, standards,
- Adequately document, track and record service tags, installation dates, warranty periods, etc. to all existing and new assets in accordance with policies and procedures,
- Active participation in lifecycle management ensuring that all owned infrastructure is kept secure using approved software updates,
- Collaborate with other departments to adequately track and report resource usage and any other matters pertinent to their operations,
- To actively maintain inter-personal skills and communication skills, answering calls or tickets in line with organisational SLAs, standards and KPIs,
- Lead in Disaster Recovery activities owned by the organisation,
- Follow through the vision, mission and objectives of the organisation, as well as any strategic initiatives and share them within a team,
- To lead by example and to inspire, motivate and manage staff, strictly adhering to the companies' guidelines and expectations,
- Gather and provide to responsible persons the weekly and monthly uptime, ticket and other kind of statistics related to the organisation products,
- Conduct weekly team meetings to discuss past and upcoming projects, works and initiatives ensuring execution of key and action items,
- Participate in an on-call as required and be available for out of office hours support when needed,
- Provide the list of the responsible persons within a team to weekly on-call rotation
- Perform necessary duties to expand, improve, deploy and maintain the office network, hardware and systems to ensure sufficient and efficient operation within the office,
- Assist with any other intra-office or department requirements or special projects.
Job Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Information Technology/Computer Engineering with a minimum of 6 years related system maintenance and server administration experience.
- Possess the necessary knowledge and experience with key server and web technologies such as virtualisation, web services, databases, networking, and CMS systems.
- Good knowledge of operating systems and servers including Linux, cPanel, etc.
- Strong knowledge in high availability technologies, clustering, balancing, replication etc,
- Strong leadership skills through effective self-management and motivation.
- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting approach
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to break down complex, technical tasks and communicate to other stakeholders in a non-technical manner, where required.
- Is a team player and has excellent planning, organisation and time management skills.
