Job Summary
YK Bulkers seeks an experienced Dry Bulk Ship Operations Manager to manage vessel operations and strengthen their Operations Department.
Responsibilities
- Manage vessel operations for owned and commercially managed fleets.
- Coordinate effectively with agents, brokers, charterers, insurers, masters, ship managers and other relevant parties to support smooth operations.
- Monitor voyage execution, vessel performance, bunker consumption, off-hire periods, delays and operational costs.
- Execute post-fixture activities including freight and hire settlements, laytime calculations, claims resolution, dispute management and voyage reporting.
- Review and verify port plans, cargo hold cleanliness standards and Port Disbursement Accounts.
- Provide vessel information, questionnaires, certifications and schedules to support the Chartering Team’s commercial objectives.
- Ensure vessel operations comply with relevant industry regulations and company procedures.
- Work closely with the Operations Team to enhance commercial and operational performance through proactive problem-solving, effective coordination and continuous process improvement.
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Minimum three years of shore-based vessel operations experience in the dry bulk sector is mandatory, with demonstrated knowledge of dry bulk operations, industry practices and commercial requirements.
- Sea-going experience and relevant Shipping or Maritime Studies qualifications are preferred.
- Strong knowledge of voyage execution, charter parties, laytime calculations, vessel performance and post-fixture procedures.
- Commercial awareness of market conditions affecting freight, bunker and port costs.
- Proactive and forward-thinking, with the ability to anticipate operational and commercial challenges, assess risks and implement effective solutions to minimise disruptions.
- Strong analytical, organisational and multitasking skills to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under pressure.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder-management and team leadership skills.
