Job description for Cable Jointer (Power Grid) at SP Group
What You’ll Do:
The selected candidate will be assigned to one of the positions below:
Disbution Network
Install high voltage, low voltage and auxiliary cable (pilot) joints including cable terminations
Cable spiking, cutting, sealing and connecting generator power and auxiliary cables
Carry out site competency assessments of contract cable jointers
Assist in investigation of high voltage cable joint failures
Assist in the trial of new cable jointing materials and jointing tools
Carry out cable jointing and termination for fault/damage repair work
Carry out repair of faulty auxiliary cables (pilot cable)
Attach to experienced cable jointer’s work sites as part of skill, knowledge and career advancement
Extra High Voltage Network
Carry out transmission cable repair / jointing work in outdoor cable trench
Carry out cable termination work
Carry out extra high voltage cable jointing and termination (sealing end) for fault/damage repair work
Carry out inspection / repair of sealing ends
Participate (hands-on) in the installation of new extra high voltage cable joints in transmission projects
Carry out repair of faulty alarm cables, pilot cables, bonding cables and other auxiliary cables (exclude fault location)
Carry out cable oil charging and leak repair including oil freezing (exclude leak location)
Carry out sheath fault repair (exclude fault location)
Inspect/verify new jointing materials delivered to the Store as spares
Collect from Store and check cable joint kits for cable jointing works
Carry out link-box relocation and repair
Carry out overground box relocation and replacement of faulty electrical contact gauges
Carry out cable and potential transformer oil flushing including residual gas pressure measurement
Assist in post cable and joint fault investigation
What You’ll Need:
NITEC / Higher NITEC in any Engineering field
Minimum 1 year of relevant working experience in related fields
Entry level candidates are welcome to apply (On job training will be provided)
Comfortable working outdoors and in trenches, including exposure to heat, rain, confined spaces, and uneven ground.
Able to perform strength‑intensive tasks such as lifting, pulling cables, and working in outdoor environments.
