Job description for Writer (News & Current Affairs) at Mothership

WHY join us?

Mothership is Singapore’s leading youth-focused digital news platform — and a trusted voice with over 10 years of media presence in Singapore.

As we venture deeper into an era of digital-first journalism, we’re looking for passionate and driven individuals to join us on our next phase of growth. This is a chance to be part of a team that shapes conversations, breaks new ground, and creates stories that matter to Singaporeans.

You will learn from and collaborate with experienced leaders and industry experts, gaining exposure to work that reaches audiences in Singapore and around the world. You’ll see the direct impact of your ideas, creativity, and craft every single day.

At Mothership, people are at the heart of everything we do — our colleagues, our community, and our audience. We’re committed not only to delivering high-quality content, but also to helping you grow personally and professionally. You’ll be supported, challenged, and empowered to build the career you envision.

WHAT is this role about?

As a Content Producer (Writer) for our News & Current Affairs team, you will work with other editorial colleagues to inform, entertain, and engage our audiences about trending topics in Singapore.

A snippet of what you can expect to be doing on a daily basis:

  • Participating in daily newsgathering and reporting
  • Working with both writing and video teams to pitch and develop story ideas
  • Working independently to pursue leads, conduct research, and follow up on pitches
  • Helping with Mothership social media platform management, e.g., drafting captions for social media posts.

An evening shift option is available for this position, with working hours from 4pm to 11pm, Mondays through Fridays.

WHO should consider?

Are you a news junkie? Do your friends depend on you to give a TL;DR of the latest happenings in Singapore?

If you possess:

  • A keen eye for detail and a critical mind
  • A strong command of the English language
  • Passion for news and current affairs, and familiarity with the latest social media trends
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet breaking news deadlines
  • The ability to host and present in videos when required

... we’d love for you to be part of our team!

Crucially, you must possess the mental stamina, tenacity, and agility to work in an intensely dynamic, fast-paced, and competitive media environment.

Senior writer position is available for candidates with at least 2-3 years of experience in newsgathering and reporting.

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
