Job description for Technical Writer at Holistics Software
Work you'll be doing
Holistics has fairly extensive Product Documentation. However, since the product and the use cases keep evolving, we need someone to focus on maintaining them, as well as improving them with more use cases so that users can get a lot more value out of the product.
Overall Goal: You'll be writing content to teach people to achieve certain use cases in Holistics and explain the concept/mechanism behind it. The ultimate goal is to help Holistics customers know how to use Holistics effectively to solve their BI use cases.
Problem Discovery: You'll work with Product/Sales/Marketing teams, go through support tickets to understand how customers are using Holistics and identify friction points where good documentation can help.
Content Writing & Editorial: You'll work with the Product/Business team, take their internal writing and notes and turn them into polished content that's easy to understand for our users.
To understand more on the standard of quality and nature of the content you will work on, look at PowerBI docs and Looker docs.
Some examples of content that you'll be writing:
What makes a good technical doc? A good doc should be:
- Easy to understand: Reader should understand why they should be interested and the actual content with little effort in a short amount of time.
- Discoverable / Skimmable: Reader can quickly scan and find the information they need within a short amount of time, without having to slowly read through the entire doc.
- Complete / Comprehensive: The reader can find all relevant information related to the topic at hand.
Requirements — You'll be a good fit if
- Relevant Domain knowledge: Some knowledge of SQL, BI tools or analytics preferred. As part of the job, we'll teach you relevant skills and knowledge about the BI tools and analytics space.
- Technical Acumen: Ability to learn technical concepts quickly and strong desire to learn them.
- Ability to Explain: Good at taking complicated concepts and break them down into simple, easy-to-understand writings/diagrams.
- Written communications: Strong English written communications skills.
- Meticulous / attention to details
Bonus (great to have, though not compulsory)
- Prior technical writing experience a plus
- Professional experience in working in Data/BI space a plus
- Experience with doing video recording instructions a plus
