Key objective will be to develop a “bottom-up” supply/demand model for the Global LNG market, including:
o Utilising in-house data to build a medium term (up to 5 years) LNG supply forecast with quarterly granularity.
o Work with traders to risk new projects based on likely start up timing.
o Input planned annual maintenance.
o Create medium term, country LNG demand forecast using a “bottom-up” approach where possible. Utilise, and calibrate various data sources including “web-scraping”, industry consultants and services providers such as Refinitiv.
o Develop a series of assumptions as inputs for future demand change; e.g. correlation between Japanese GDP growth to industrial demand to gas demand to LNG demand.
o Work with traders to amend the forecast with any industry intelligence.
o Compare quarterly supply and demand to produce a balance forecast for each key region.
o Use LNG contract information and work with Traders to understand trade flow restrictions such as quality constraints.
o Develop a trade flow global trade flow forecast using the aforementioned balance forecast and trade flow limitations.
Develop a set of monitoring tools to flag potential market impacting events and create a daily Analytics reports for the Traders. Items to analyse and track include:
- Vessel tracking - direction changes, floating storage, idle floating.
- Vessel loadings and flaring monitors – changes that may infer production changes.
- Temperature vs gas demand correlation – analyse relationship then monitor forecast temperature changes to forecast impact on demand.
- Japanese nuclear power station utilisation and maintenance
- LNG and underground gas storage levels in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China (“JKTC”).
In addition to the above, a specific focus on the European gas market including:
- Developing a high-level gas supply stack model.
