Fundnel is building the future of private capital markets. Traditionally a space only for the wealthy and well-connected, we believe in a future where private markets are more accessible to investors and fundraisers. By leveling the playing field we hope to create a more equitable economy, where inspiring companies are connected to inspired investors, whoever and wherever they are.
Leveraging our trusted brand, global networks and incredible team, we’re building a technology-enabled ecosystem that is as diverse and dynamic as our investor network. As we progress on this ambitious journey, we’re looking for energetic and creative people to support and leave their mark on our platform.
We are seeking a strong technically-minded people leader to join our team as Head of Engineering, supporting our rapidly growing product engineering teams. Working closely with our CTO, this role is focused on continually developing our team as they continually develop our product. Creating and implementing our best practices, ensuring each member of the team is progressing to their full potential, being an insightful voice in technical solutioning discussions, and working closely with product and senior leadership to map business strategy to tech ops are all key parts of this role. In other words, it’s a key role with immense opportunity to continue to build on technical leadership skills in terms of both breadth and depth at a rapidly growing fintech.
This is a unique opportunity at a key foundational stage of our product development. We are ambitiously building an end-to-end ecosystem for private markets, with three different product teams focused on our digital exchange, our backend services, and our front-end platforms respectively. Each team is cross-functional, autonomous and deeply collaborative as we try whenever possible to remove the traditional functional silos of product teams. Our tech stack is highly varied and constantly evolving, but is currently made up largely of Node (Nest JS), React/React Native, NextJS, MySQL, AWS (via Terraform) and EVM-based web3 integrations. We are largely serverless and are continually improving our CI/CD best practices to maximise our release frequency while minimsing our operational risk.
Our engineering culture is incredibly important to us, and we hope to fill this role with someone who appreciates that the best tech stacks (and tech companies) start with the best working environments. We embrace deep integration between our tech and business functions, encourage transparency and constant learning, and avoid top-down decision making wherever possible. As our hands-on engineering team rapidly grows, we hope to build a layer of senior management that is passionate about enabling rather than directing our engineers wherever possible.
We’re a supportive, social, and entrepreneurial team of former investment bankers, technologists and strategists. Clear, honest communication is key to everything we do.
The sorts of things you’ll be doing:
Taking on people management responsibilities across a large portion of our growing 15+ strong dev/QA team working across three offices (Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam)
Working with key stakeholders including the CTO and Director of Product, collaboratively setting org-wide best practices and ensuring teams have the strategies and support required to execute and maintain them
Take part in technical solutioning discussions across the application, infrastructure, ops and data realms, offering support and advisement based on experience, as well as ensuring our approaches align across our teams and reflect our team practices
Setting professional development paths for various roles, and ensuring our approach to feedback and assessment is continually improving to best support every team member
Take a strong leading role in the ongoing development of our resourcing and hiring strategy across dev/QA/architecture/DevOps functions
Collaborate directly with the CTO and other department heads to ensure the tech team’s operations and strategic goals align with those of the business, and are resilient to quick changes based on market conditions
Stay in tune with our regulatory responsibilities and help to ensure that our team practices satisfy or exceed the guidelines set out by regulators in all of our operating markets
As our Head of Engineering we are hoping you will bring significant experience which should include the majority of the following:
8-10+ years overall in software engineering, with the majority of that in a hands-on position
3+ years of technology-focused people management experience, ideally with responsibility for multiple teams
Experience building technology in a regulated space
Experience with managing managers is an asset but not a requirement
Hands-on experience with a variety of programming languages, ideally a mixture of both object-oriented and functional paradigms
Experience with solutioning significant engineering deliverables both in greenfield circumstances as well as as part of a mature, active system
Exposure to the unique challenges of building software with a growth-stage environment, or at least being able to recognise and prioritise key transformation along the path from startup to large company
Extensive experience working hands-on with at least one major cloud provider, ideally leveraging infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform
Examples of having worked through technical decisioning that balances speed-to-build with scalability
A good working and up-to-date knowledge of cyber security and how to ensure resilience is baked into technical solutioning
While the majority of our stack is web2, experience or at least an interest in web3 tech is an asset
Demonstrable experience with working out team structures and processes (variations of Agile, vertical vs horizontal teams, cross-functionality, etc.)
Beyond the technology, we also hope you’ve got some level of experience, or at least interest, in:
Financial services, particularly the investment space
Both startup and corporate-type working environments (we’re a bit of both!)
Food! We talk about it a lot :)
This role is based in Singapore, in our office located in the middle of CBD.
