Name: Bolong Chew
Role: Strategy Analyst
How did you end up as a strategy analyst at Accenture?
I first discovered consulting in my second year of University, and later validated my interest in it as I got involved in pro-bono consulting as well as consulting internships towards graduation.
What is it about your job that you love so much?
In my opinion, there are two things which fundamentally matter when it comes to job satisfaction and happiness – the work you’re doing and the people around you.
What is a typical day at work like at Accenture?
The work is really dynamic and we work on new projects and subject areas every couple of months – so there aren’t days which are really typical. I’ve worked with four different clients in the past one and a half years and spent most of my time outside of Singapore – in Bangkok and Jakarta.
What are some words you would use to describe the community/environment at Accenture?
The environment is fast-paced and challenging, but there’s strong support system with seniors who are willing to guide and mentor you along. Consulting attracts people from all types of backgrounds, so a lot of people have really interesting stories and this makes for engaging conversations. The culture is great as well – many of my colleagues are people I call my friends and would even hang out with, on weekends.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I’d like to see myself in a position where I can contribute even more to the world and help to scale impact, positively.
Any words of advice to those who are looking to pursue a career in your field?
Consulting firms look for people who are driven, curious and willing to learn. So if you’re new to the field, don’t be shy to reach out to those in the industry for a chat to learn more. If you ask folks on the streets for direction, they’d smile and happily tell you the way – no one will expect you to give them something in return. People are innately social and are willing to help, as long as you are sincere about it.
