How did you end up as an actress?
Because of passion. I wanted to be an actress since I was in Primary 5. I was told to finish my studies before I pursue what I wanted. My teachers, family and friends were very supportive and recommended me for roles whenever they could and that’s how I got my chance in this field.
What is it about your job that you love so much?
I love the versatility of it. I get to work with different teams all the time, different people, different roles, different expectations. Therefore, I am learning at every step of the way. You feel a sense of achievement after the shoot.
What is a typical day at work?
You reach the venue to do hair and make up, go through the script with the director and cast, rehearse and finally do a take for the camera. You slowly move on to other scenes until you’re done with the shoot. Often times, you have to go through the same lines over and over again because of the different shots needed.
Sometimes, it’s easy if all you have to do is to lie on the bed but sometimes you’re required to stand and kneel for over 20 times, cover yourself in a blanket in a stuffy and warm room for hours or even run under the hot sun over and over again.
What are some words you would use to describe the community/environment?
I don’t think that anyone is more important than the other. Actor, director, soundman, producer, cameraman, make up and assistants, as long as one person is missing, we can’t get the perfect shot needed for the scene. We really have to work very tightly so that we can move on at work. Even between actors, if one forgets his lines, it slows down the process and everyone else will have to redo the same part with the actor. Therefore I think the teamwork is really important.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Hopefully, people in and outside of the industry will hear of my name in the next 5 years.
Any words of advice to those who are looking to pursue a career in your field?
Getting into the acting field is not as easy as going for an interview and clinching the job. You go for auditions again and again even after you’re selected for roles. It’s like a never ending marathon. However, if you really love what you’re doing, you’ll never want the run to end, right? 😉
