Name: Terence Heng
Role: Freelance Video Producer
How did you end up freelancing?
I’ve always wanted to end up here. I joined my secondary school just because they had a Film Making Club. So I ended up here because i loved the idea of making something I loved and getting paid.
What about your job do you love so much?
People’s expressions when they see the videos that I make. I love seeing how people react to my ideas, and my executions because I value my craft and want to share it with whoever wants to watch. Getting a story and a point across to people is a goal, and their reactions and expressions are the end result I look at.
What is a typical day at work like?
Well, freelancing isn’t 9-5 type of work. But typically I have to crack my brain to write an engaging storyline/script. Followed by planning the shots and camera movement. Then i have to decide where to shoot and how to edit. So yeah, plenty to do, but each day is almost always different.
What are some words you would use to describe your work?
Competitive. Tiring. Fast-Paced. Rewarding.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
On my way to the director’s chair, and to make my way there, I plan on at least being an assistant director or continue my freelancing as a director, writer, or producer.
Any words of advice to those who are looking to pursue a career in your field?
There is no such thing as a small job, just small people. If you know what you want, it’s important to work hard and work your way there
