#ilovemycareer Conversation with Shuqrie Idlan – Creative Director

Name: Shuqrie Idlan
Role: Creative Director

How did you end up in Vigilante as the creative director?

When I was looking to start my career, I was searching high and low for a company that could give me a sense of purpose. Working for vigilante gives me that sense of purpose because its values are aligned with mine and it allows me to do what I’m most interested in, design. This may come across as weird as i have a diploma in business, but I have a really strong love for the arts, such as photography and design.

What about your job do you love so much?

I have never once dragged my feet to work because, as mentioned earlier, my job requires me to do what I love, the arts. Furthermore, my colleagues make it a point to always motivate and help each other out. But I would say the thing I love most about the company is that it gives me the autonomy to do my job as trust is established.

What is a typical day at Vigilante like?

What I do involves a lot of planning. A typical day at work would be brainstorming our next move. Everyone sits down and comes up with ideas and we all discuss and decide on certain things. Every idea is considered, which I feel keeps morale up and boosts motivation to come up with even better ideas in the future.

What are some words you would use to describe Vigilante?

Motivating, friendly and fun.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I see myself remaining in Vigilante LLP. With all the positivity of the team, I believe that the company can go far and I would very much love to be on that journey with them.

Any words of advice to those who are looking to pursue a career in your field?

The field may be demanding and sometimes things may not go as planned but at the end of the day, always remind yourself why you love designing. Like they say, a picture speaks a thousand words. I personally believe that every design has a million stories to tell and to be able to tell that story in an end product always feels fulfilling.
