#ilovemycareer Conversation with Cheryl Pek – Content Creator

Name: Cheryl Pek Jia Ying
Role: Content creator for Mongabong

How did you end up in this career?

Passion. After secondary school, I joined the mass communications course in Temasek Polytechnic, and continued to work hard and passionately through my 3 years there, and I actively continue to apply what I learn now because I love what I do.

What about your job do you love so much?

Like I said, I enjoy what I do and I think it provides me with a lot of knowledge because the working world is very different from school. While I continue to apply whatever was taught to me, I still find something new to learn. With the exposure to the media field too, I get to experience events firsthand, and watch how things are done behind-the-scenes.

What is a typical day at work like?

My day at work varies a lot, and it usually depends on the schedule for the week and what I have to produce or create. But on a day where we have to film, I typically start off my day with the video production or the photoshoot, helping the set up and set design, and then heading over to the office to edit and prepare the content. Occasionally, there are product events that I attend too!

What are some words you would use to describe your workplace?

Fun, dynamic, and awesome. Not many people get the opportunity to work in the field that I work in, and it’s very different from a regular 9-5 job. So my experiences are pretty unique.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Continuing my work in the media industry. I know that I’ve found something I really love to do as a career, and I don’t think I’m gonna stop anytime soon.

Any words of advice to those who are looking to pursue a career in your field?

Step out of your comfort zone and dare to try something creative and different. Everyone deserves to work a job that they love to do, and you deserve to take your time to discover that.
