6 Budget Cafes Near SUTD Below $15

If you think the new SUTD campus at Upper Changi area is too off-central for great affordable cafes, prepared to be surprised! This list of budget cafes near SUTD features some of the coolest and most caffeinated-ly awesome places that SUTD students can enjoy any time of the day.

1. Percolate Cafe

Spice up your afternoon with a luscious chocolate tart for $4 and a 5oz flat white for another $4, while chilling at this cozy cafe. Percolate concentrates their artistic efforts on the coffee and accompanying cakes and tarts, which is why there is no cooked food at this cafe (something Starbucks can never afford to do). The beans used are of excellent quality: the supplier is the same people who supply for the renowned Chye Seng Huat Hardware in Lavender.

Percolate is without doubt the perfect place to chill for coffee-loving (or coffee-craving) students.

Address: 136 Bedok North Avenue 3 #01-152B, Singapore 460136

Opening hours: 10:30 am to 9:30 pm (Mon), 10:30 am to 9:30 pm (Wed – Fri), 9:00 am to 9:30 pm (Sat – Sun)

2. To-Gather Cafe

This cozy cafe features classic espresso-based drinks as well as non-caffeinated options such as dark chocolate. You will also be tempted by a range of delightful finger food, brunch and dinner items. Price for the coffee drinks ranges from $3.20 for a single espresso to $4.80 for a cafe mocha.

This pleasant cafe seems to be the most popular for its Pork Cordon Bleu though. Due to the difficulty in making this particular dish (Chicken Cordon Bleu is far more common), the fact that To-gather cafe does a spectacular job with this dish seems to give their customers a unique impression.

Head to this cafe if you’re in the mood for a full-blown brunch or dinner accompanied by caffeinated or non-caffeinated drinks.

This stylish cafe offers a cup of espresso with milk at $4.50 (5 oz) and $5.50 (7 oz). The tortillas seem to be popular as well, with three flavours: smoked chicken, salted beef, and truffle mushroom. All are offered at 6 dollars each. The young and energetic ambience is enhanced with sporty product displays.

This restaurant-cum-cafe wouldn’t really fit into the budget cafe category, but they do offer delicious espresso-based beverages such as Hazelnut Latte for $7. If you’re feeling terribly hungry and would like a full course meal accompanied by the coffee, there’s Eggs Atlantic featuring aromatic homemade toast and creamy poached eggs at $13. The main courses come at generous portions and with excellent flavours, which make them well worth the money.

Good coffee and delicacies featuring both local and Western traditional recipes are what makes this casual cafe famous. The coffee-dedicated Brewers offers quality coffee ranging from gourmet, delicate espresso beans to intense, single-origin filtered coffee. Signature dishes include Beef Rendang Burgers, Trio Stuffed Portobello Mushroom Burger and Sweet Dough Fritters.

A cafe dedicated to coffee, ice cream and desserts, this is the perfect place to retreat to for an affordable quiet getaway after school. Free Wifi and charging stations are a big plus too! A range of regular, large and x-large coffee drinks are what caught my eye about The Time Table Cafe. From standard flavours such as vanilla and caramel macchiatos, to more “fanciful” and playful flavours like chocolate cookie latte and blue curacao, this place looks more than promising indeed!

Address: East Village, 430 Upper Changi Road, 487048
Opening hours: Daily: 11:00 – 12:00
