Do you find yourself having difficulty relaxing and quieting your mind? Are you feeling overwhelmed lately? WebMD categorised these symptoms of stress. Granted, a little bit of stress is good for you, but if not managed properly, it could result in adverse effects on your health. But how do you deal with pressure? In the words of my second-favourite Golden Girl, you have a choice. You can either let it beat you or you can tough it out.
Calm beats meditating in a toilet cubicle, hands down. Let’s not kid ourselves; the last thing you want to do is to take a deep breath in a bathroom stall where someone has just taken his morning dump. Eek. With Calm, you can meditate without leaving the work desk.
With meditation breaks ranging from 2 to 20 minutes, the entire web experience makes you feel as if you’ve been transported to a meadow hidden in the folds of a forest. It’s a refreshing change from a fast-paced work environment. For the best result, bring along your headphones and ensure that you’re free from distractions.
The sound of birds chirping in the background is every bit of lovely. Even if you’re not a fan of the nature scene, there are up to 25 options for you to choose from. Light snowfall? Sandy beach? Name it and you got it.
2. Switch off your Spotify playlist and listen to this instead
Spotify has outdone itself in terms of curated playlists; there’s every song for every occasion. But sometimes even our favourite mixtape can’t distract us from the turmoil at our internship. This is where Rainfor.me comes in. I don’t speak for everyone else, but listening to the soft pitter-patter of the rain is like a soothing therapy.
Plus, it’s a lot easier to concentrate on your tasks with the sound of raindrops playing in the background than jamming to The White Stripes (as much as I hate to say this). The innovative website is for Seattle fans and fellow pluviophiles. Rainfor.me is simply Mother Nature at her best.
Folks, just because your head is messy inside doesn’t mean your desk have to be. A cluttered work space is one of the contributing factors behind un-productivity. Could your untidy work desk be the one of reasons behind the tension in the office?
If that’s the case, get a couple of cardboard boxes and do a massive clean-up. One tip that I’ve picked up from Becoming Minimalist is the Four-Box method. You could try sorting the items on your desk into 4 categories: trash, give away, keep, or relocate.
This might take some time, but oh boy, is it worth it.
4. Watch this video
Or rather, watch any video or song that brings a smile to your face. Don’t let the temporary stress stand in your way. Even if it’s a miserable internship, remind yourself that it’s not permanent. Watch or listen to the clips during your break; you don’t want you boss thinking that you’re skiving, do you? Fret not, the tough days won’t stay that long. It sounds cheesy, but I truly believe that your better days are ahead of you.
