Job description for Senior/Executive, Research at HCA Hospice
Operates as the lead methodologist and process architect within the Department of Data, Innovation & Research (DIR). This role is responsible for rigorous yet pragmatic co-design and validation of care models with clinicians, to transform our research from retrospective data reporting to prospective evidence generation. The incumbent works under the Head of DIR to establish the Institute of Applied Palliative Care, focusing on study design, systems architecture, and scientific authorship.
Job Responsibilities :
1. Methodological Leadership & Study Design
Conceptualize and lead complex evaluations of major projects, including new models of care.
Define statistical and qualitative methodologies required to validate clinical outcomes, ensuring all studies meet the rigor required for peer-reviewed publication.
Develop the evaluation logic for strategic pilots, distinct from operational data collection by junior staff.
2. Clinical Process Architecture
Act as primary process architect for strategic pilots (e.g., Direct Admissions, Step-Up care, Afterhours Support).
Utilize systems thinking and process mapping to translate clinical intent into scalable operational workflows.
Identify bottlenecks in patient pathways through data analysis and design evidence-based interventions to resolve them.
3. Scientific Authorship & Evidence Synthesis
Serve as co-author for high-impact scientific manuscripts and technical white papers by HCA Hospice
Synthesize findings from various data streams to construct compelling narratives that position the organization as a thought leader in applied palliative care.
Manage intellectual output, ensuring that data is not just reported but interpreted for clinical significance.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
1. Innovation Governance
Oversee the scientific review of internal innovation proposals and study grant applications.
Assess the methodological soundness and feasibility of staff-led projects to ensure alignment with current strategic roadmaps, before resources are deployed.
2. Advanced Compliance Strategy
Develop and maintain the department’s overarching ethical compliance framework.
Manage high-level relationships with Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) and regulatory bodies, navigating complex ethical dilemmas inherent in end-of-life research.
3. Technical Mentorship
Provide guidance to junior Research Executives and Assistants regarding data integrity and research protocols.
Ensure operational data collection methods align with high-level evaluation frameworks set by the department.
Job requirements :
· Advanced competency in research design (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods).
· Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python).
· Proficiency in process mapping and workflow visualization.
