Job Description
Summary
The Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC and conventional machine tools to manufacture precision parts and components according to engineering specifications. The role involves interpreting blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical documents to produce high-quality components using machining techniques such as drilling, milling, grinding, and turning.
The Machinist will translate engineering instructions into machine commands, ensure proper machine setup, monitor machining processes, and maintain equipment to achieve accurate results and consistent production output. Strong knowledge of machining processes, shop mathematics, material properties, and precision measuring instruments is essential.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Machine Setup and Operation
- Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform machining operations such as drilling, grinding, milling, and turning.
- Translate technical drawings and engineering instructions into machine programs and commands.
- Set up tools, fixtures, and workpieces according to job specifications.
- Perform 2-axis turning and 5-axis milling operations to produce precision components.
Technical Interpretation and Machining
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and CAD/CAM files to determine machining requirements.
- Analyze engineering drawings, product specifications, and sample parts to determine machining methods and process sequences.
- Understand and apply geometric tolerances and dimensional specifications to achieve required accuracy.
Measurement and Quality Control
- Utilize precision instruments such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, and gauges to measure dimensions and tolerances.
- Inspect and test machined parts to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
- Identify and correct machining defects or deviations.
CNC Programming and Process Optimization
- Program or modify CNC programs when necessary to improve machining efficiency.
- Characterize material machinability, select appropriate cutting tools, tool holding methods, and coolant types for CNC manufacturing.
- Optimize cutting parameters to improve productivity and maintain part quality.
Machine Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Monitor machine operations and listen for irregularities to detect equipment issues.
- Diagnose machine malfunctions and perform basic adjustments or repairs when required.
- Clean, lubricate, and maintain machines, tools, and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Production Support
- Support metalworking projects from planning, fabrication, assembly, inspection, and testing.
- Maintain high production output while ensuring accuracy and quality standards.
- Work closely with production teams and supervisors to meet operational targets.
Workplace and Team Collaboration
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace following safety procedures.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Document machining activities and report production issues when necessary.
Requirements
- NTC / ITC in Precision Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Relevant experience in machining or precision manufacturing.
- Experience in CNC machining including 2-axis turning and 5-axis milling is required.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
- Knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, and materials.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts if required.
- Strong planning, organizational, and troubleshooting skills.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
