The Locum Occupational Therapist (OT) / Physiotherapist (PT) provides temporary, flexible clinical support across healthcare settings to ensure continuity of patient care during staffing gaps, peak service demand, or special projects. The locum therapist is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based rehabilitation services, managing caseloads efficiently, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

The role requires adaptability to varying work environments, strong clinical reasoning, and the ability to integrate quickly into existing teams while maintaining professional standards and service expectations.


Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Duties

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical, functional, cognitive, and psychosocial evaluations.

Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient goals.

Deliver therapeutic interventions to improve mobility, independence, and participation in activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).

Manage assigned caseloads effectively, ensuring timely assessment, treatment, and documentation.

Review and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress and clinical outcomes.

Provide discharge planning and recommendations for continued care in home or community settings.

Educate patients, families, and caregivers on therapy goals, home programs, safety strategies, and use of assistive devices.

Maintain accurate, clear, and timely documentation in accordance with organizational and professional standards.

Apply evidence-based practice and maintain clinical competency across different rehabilitation conditions.

Handle a range of cases including musculoskeletal, neurological, geriatric, post-surgical, and chronic conditions, depending on service needs.

Ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and ethical standards.


2. Collaboration & Teamwork

Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including doctors, nurses, therapists, and allied health professionals.

Communicate effectively regarding patient progress, care plans, and discharge recommendations.

Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and handovers when required.

Support continuity of care by integrating smoothly into existing workflows and systems.

Provide professional input to optimize patient outcomes and service delivery.


3. Operational & Administrative Duties

Adhere to site-specific policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.

Maintain accurate patient records and service documentation in electronic or manual systems.

Assist in managing scheduling, prioritization, and workflow within the assigned department.

Report incidents, clinical concerns, and operational issues promptly.

Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of therapy equipment and resources.

Support inventory tracking and reporting for equipment where applicable.

Contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.


4. Flexibility & Adaptability

Adapt quickly to different healthcare settings such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, community centers, or home-based services.

Adjust to varying caseloads, patient profiles, and service expectations.

Learn and apply site-specific systems, documentation formats, and protocols efficiently.

Demonstrate resilience and professionalism in fast-paced or changing environments.


5. Quality & Professional Practice

Uphold professional standards set by relevant regulatory boards and institutions.

Ensure delivery of safe, ethical, and patient-centered care at all times.

Participate in audits or quality improvement activities when required during assignment.

Identify and escalate clinical risks or service gaps appropriately.

Maintain confidentiality and data protection standards.


6. Education & Knowledge Sharing

Provide guidance or support to therapy assistants when required.

Share knowledge and best practices with team members when appropriate.

Participate in in-service training or orientation sessions upon deployment.

Maintain personal professional development and stay updated with current clinical practices.


7. Professional Conduct

Demonstrate strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.

Maintain professionalism, accountability, and ethical conduct in all interactions.

Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, caregivers, and colleagues.

Familiarity with documentation systems and clinical protocols

Strong adaptability for short-term or changing assignments

At least 3 to 5 days work week between Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6pm
