Job description for Analytical Chemist at Advanced Flavors & Fragrances

Analytical Chemist | Singapore | Full-Time

About Advanced Flavors & Fragrances

Advanced Flavors & Fragrances is a Singapore-headquartered flavor house serving food and beverage manufacturers across the Asia-Pacific region. With facilities in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Australia, we offer full in-house creation, analytical, application and manufacturing capabilities, developing flavors from concept through to commercial supply.

We are part of the VKA group, combining over 50 years of flavor science expertise with continued investment in people, technology, and regional expansion. Our team includes experienced flavorists, food technologists, and commercial professionals committed to technical excellence and genuine partnership with our clients.

The Role

We are hiring an Analytical Chemist to lead the analytical profiling of flavor systems using GCMS and complementary techniques. You'll support R&D and product development through competitive benchmarking, reformulation projects for cost optimization, quality standardization, and technical problem-solving for clients.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain GCMS (and HPLC where applicable) for volatile and non-volatile compound analysis

Develop and validate analytical methods for complex flavor matrices

Identify and quantify key flavor compounds using spectral libraries and retention indices

Provide analytical insights to guide reformulation and product development decisions

Conduct competitive product analysis to support innovation and commercial strategy

Partner with flavorists and the R&D team to translate analytical data into actionable recommendations

Maintain instrument qualification, calibration, and quality control protocols

Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal teams and clients

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Food Technology, or related discipline

3 to 5 years of hands-on GCMS operation experience (Agilent, Thermo, Shimadzu, or similar platforms)

Strong understanding of chromatography principles and mass spectrometry

Experience with NIST/Wiley spectral libraries and compound identification

Knowledge of flavor chemistry and aroma compounds

Ability to interpret complex chromatograms and spectral data

Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal — able to present technical findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders

Experience in the flavors and fragrances industry, food manufacturing, or a related sector is an advantage

Familiarity with sensory-analytical correlation, HPLC, GC-O (olfactometry), or other complementary analytical techniques is an advantage

What You'll Get

Competitive salary with annual wage supplement (AWS), medical benefits, a 5-day work week, and clear career progression pathways — all within a growing regional company where your contributions are visible and valued.

Location: 82 Ubi Ave 4, Edward Boustead Centre, #07-01 & 02, Singapore 408832
