Senior R&D Engineer – Data Science, modelling, and District Energy Systems
Our client participates actively in the transition towards a carbon-neutral world via a leading research centre.
Within the R&D team you will be responsible for execution of various research projects/tasks that requires data science, modelling, and analysis competencies You will be working with the team in charge of cooling activities but also involved on other programs to provide your expertise.
As a senior scientist engineer, you will help the team to master and demonstrate innovative and low-carbon technologies for our client's core businesses through modelling and simulation studies.
Your mission
The position requires you to:
- Participate in all projects that require data science, modelling / simulation, and energy related analysis skills.
- Take part in the development (hardware and software) of new products ensuring their good communication / integration with the other digital tools used/developed by the group.
- Contribute implementation of digital and optimisation solutions in the programs of the Lab.
- Bring your knowledge in terms of design and optimisation of DHC (DCS) and other District Energy Systems to support R&D programs and services to the Business Unit.
- Perform modelling studies and analysis (efficiency, environmental impact, OPEX, CAPEX, etc) of the integration of innovative and disruptive technologies to improve system performances, such as DHC, cooling systems of Data Centre.
- Develop physical modelling and mathematical optimization of energy systems.
- Take part in the development of new technical concepts and innovative business models all along the value chain (from the concept idea to the POC).
- Bring your knowledge to support other developments (e.g., digital tools, predictive maintenance, optimisation…).
- Lead and contribute to software solutions / algorithms.
- Support all projects of the Lab when Data Science, modelling/simulation is required.
- Do scientific research to ensure the quality and relevance of models you will develop.
- Take part in R&D projects with other research centres within the company, local academics and industrial and/or research partners.
- Provide services to local entities of our client and external customers.
- Perform benchmark, technical & economic analysis, and testing of innovative solutions.
- Do techno watch to identify innovations and new solutions/technologies.
- Report on a weekly basis to your manager.
You will also take part in the business development by helping the team to find new opportunities.
Requirements
- You have a strong knowledge in data analysis from building dynamic simulation (e.g. Modelica, Simulink) with at least 5-year experience
- You have a strong knowledge in DHC, Local Energy Communities, System optimisation Refrigeration systems,
- You have strong skills in AI, Computer science and data analysis.
- Knowledge on emerging / innovative and decarbonised solutions are an added advantage.
- You have a Master or PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, or other engineering related areas.
- You are familiar with common data sciences and system modelling tools.
- You have a previous working experience in an R&D centre or within academia.
- You are fluent in English. French speaker is an added advantage to liaise with the HQ

- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Organised, high attention to detail and accuracy
- Able to handle multiple assignments without losing oversight in a timely manner
- May require travel in Southeast Asia region
