Job description for Evening Assistant Editor at Mothership

WHY join us?

Mothership is Singapore’s leading youth-focused digital news platform — and a trusted voice with over 10 years of media presence in Singapore.

As we venture deeper into an era of digital-first journalism, we’re looking for passionate and driven individuals to join us on our next phase of growth. This is a chance to be part of a team that shapes conversations, breaks new ground, and creates stories that matter to Singaporeans.

You will learn from and collaborate with experienced leaders and industry experts, gaining exposure to work that reaches audiences in Singapore and around the world. You’ll see the direct impact of your ideas, creativity, and craft every single day.

At Mothership, people are at the heart of everything we do — our colleagues, our community, and our audience. We’re committed not only to delivering high-quality content but also to helping you grow personally and professionally. You’ll be supported, challenged, and empowered to build the career you envision.

WHAT is this role about?

As an Evening Assistant Editor, you will work as part of Mothership’s editorial team to ensure and improve the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of our news and current affairs reporting cross multiple media formats. You will help expand our editorial range and increase our editorial depth.

You will lead and mentor a team of content producers and be responsible for executing, assigning, and coordinating editorial tasks and duties.

The evening team operates from 4pm to 11pm, Mondays through Fridays.

A snippet of what you can expect to be doing on a day-to-day basis:

  • Managing the output of news content on our website and social media platforms through the effective editing, assigning, and curation of stories
  • Identifying important news developments in Singapore, or international news that affects Singapore
  • Participating in news gathering, reporting, and story development
  • Leading and mentoring a team of evening content producers
  • Independently managing project timelines and resources

WHO should consider?

We are looking for someone with a minimum of four years of operational experience in news, digital media, or a related industry, and with experience in managing teams and projects.

If you are someone who:

  • Reads widely and thinks clearly and critically
  • Is creative, curious, and passionate about current affairs, people and politics
  • Possesses excellent writing and editing skills
  • Keeps extremely current with digital and social media trends
  • Can help our audiences make sense of issues and events in an increasingly complex and fragmented world
  • Is passionate about mentoring and guiding a team

... we’d love for you to be part of our team!

Crucially, you must possess the mental stamina, tenacity, and agility to work in an intensely dynamic, fast-paced, and competitive media environment.

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
