Job description for Engineering Manager at Apiary Academy
Apiary Talents (Headhunter & Outsourcing Service) is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join a technology startup developing Internet of Things (IoT)-based products for tracking operational vehicle assets in the Information Technology & Services industry (AgriTech & Logistics Products).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop an engineering team consisting of 2 engineers (full-stack and mobile), with plans for team growth, as well as manage an outsourced full-stack team.
- Define and maintain scalable technical architecture, design patterns, and code quality standards.
- Conduct regular code reviews and foster a culture of engineering excellence.
- Actively contribute to coding (hands-on), especially for critical and complex features.
- Manage technical debt and make strategic technical decisions aligned with business needs.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for the product.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Product & Growth Officer on sprint planning, estimation, and backlog prioritization.
- Communicate technical progress, challenges, and trade-offs to C-level stakeholders in a clear and non-technical manner.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and efficient development infrastructure.
- Leverage AI tools, particularly Claude, within daily engineering workflows to improve team productivity.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 8 years of experience as a software engineer, with a minimum of 3 years in a lead or managerial role.
- Strong experience in web and/or mobile development (full-stack experience is preferred).
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience using Claude (Anthropic) in daily work, including for code generation, debugging, code reviews, and documentation.
- Proven experience mentoring and developing small, junior teams, with the ability to guide patiently and effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, especially in explaining complex technical concepts to C-level stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and experience applying it within small teams.
- Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD, and software engineering best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a startup or early-stage company environment.
- Experience building an engineering team from scratch or at a very early stage.
- Ability to integrate AI/LLM tools into team development workflows.
- Experience with IoT, telemetry data, or real-time systems is a strong plus.
