Job description for DEVELOPMENT SCIENTIST (Protein extraction/cell culture) at Kosmode Health Singapore
COMPANY BACKGROUND
Kosmode Health Singapore Pte Ltd is a Food Science Technology start-up, incorporated with the mission to expand access to health from nature. Anchored on a triple technology platform, KosmodeHealth resolves the following four issues in two industries - food and biomedical industry.
1. Food industry:
i. High cost of plant extractions limiting mass market access to quality assured plant health ingredients.
ii. High wastage of food processing side-stream (such as spent barley after beer brewery, spent corn, spent toufu etc).
2. Biomedical Industry:
iii. High cost and issues of animal protein as bio-ink material for 3D bioscaffold printing.
iv. Limited range of 3D bioscaffolds to meet the varied cell culture microenvironments needed for different cell types.

OVERALL JOB SCOPE
The candidate is a scientific expert with keen business acumen to extend their scientific knowledge into downstream cell culture applications to drive business expansion. This role requires both hands on technical expertise and business development skills.
The candidate will be responsible for smooth operations of the 3D bioprinting facility; develop and optimize plant protein composite bioink formulation & scaffold printing to drive overall business growth and adoption of novel plant protein scaffold for cell & tissue culture applications.
SPECIFIC ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop scalable extraction methods for proteins (and other biomolecules) from grains, food processing and/or agri-food side-streams (such as spent barley, spent coffee, spent oil seed meals)
- Perform analysis and characterization of the extracted proteins, and chemical/biochemical modification of the proteins.
- Formulate plant protein composite bioink for scaffold fabrication by 3D printing
- Develop, optimize scaffold printing methods
- Develop operating protocols for meat/cell culture application of the scaffolds
- Project management - Plans, schedules, coordinate internal resources, liaise with third parties/vendors for the seamless execution of customers’ and R&D projects.
- Prepare business process reports for management and customers.
- Scientific writings & presentations including grants applications, conference/scientific papers/presentations
- Participate in customers’ meetings and business development activities
QUALIFICATIONS
i. Academic
- PhD or MSc degree holder in related fields.
ii. Skills/Experience
- Domain knowledge and expertise in plant protein and cell culture, especially meat culture application is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of bioink formulation and 3D scaffold bioprinting for cell culture development is a plus.
- Solid organizational skills with multi-tasking ability
- Good written and spoken communication skills in English, working knowledge of Chinese is a strong advantage.
- Team player with strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with ability to work in cross functional matrix team.
- Self-driven, independent and resourceful problem solver with a ‘can do’ mentality
