Support and assist the nurses (Registered Nurses (RN) and Enrolled Nurses (EN)) in delivery of nursing care to residents and help to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for them

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Care delivery

Comply with approved standards of nursing practices

Participate in activities to improve the quality of care

Attend to needs of the residents.  Ensure the safety, comfort and well-being of the residents and report residents’ need to the nurse

Check, monitor and record residents’ vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure

Ensure the comfort and good personal hygiene of the residents under her/his care, e.g. bed bath/shower bath, changing of clothes and bed sheets, keeping them clean and dry

Assist in the transfer and positioning of non-ambulant residents

Assist in the conduct of daily exercise for the residents

Assist the RN to ensure residents take their medicines

Assist in serving meals and drinks; and feeding patients

Maintain accurate documentation of care given and assist the RN/ EN in handing over the report

 Assist the nurse in nursing care, e.g. caring for patients with urinary catheter

Assist in the admission and orientation of new residents

  Accompany residents to the hospital/polyclinic for follow up appointments and outing trips

  Alert nurses to emergency situations.  When necessary, take first responder actions to mitigate the emergency
