Job Description: 3D Printing Technician / Supervisor

Role Overview

Additive Inn is seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient 3D Printing Technician / Supervisor to oversee our additive manufacturing operations. This role is a blend of hands-on production and operational management. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of a print—from file preparation and hardware maintenance to high-end post-processing and quality control.

As a supervisor, you will also manage production schedules, optimize material usage, and ensure that all outputs meet the rigorous aesthetic and functional standards required for professional prototyping and architectural models.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production & Operation

• Manage daily print queues for FDM and SLA/Resin printers (including Bambu Lab and industrial-grade systems).
• Prepare 3D files using slicing software (e.g., Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Chitubox), optimizing orientation, support structures, and infill for strength and surface finish.
• Monitor print jobs to minimize failure rates and ensure timely delivery of projects.

2. Technical Maintenance

• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on hardware (nozzle replacements, bed leveling, axis lubrication, and firmware updates).
• Manage inventory of filaments (PLA, PETG, ASA, TPU) and resins, ensuring materials are stored in climate-controlled conditions to maintain integrity.

3. Professional Post-Processing

• Execute high-quality finishing techniques: support removal, precision sanding, and gap-filling.
• Lead the priming and spray-painting process to transform raw prints into "production-ready" aesthetic prototypes.

4. Supervision & Workflow

• Oversee a small team of interns or junior staff, providing technical guidance and quality checks.
• Maintain a clean and organized workshop environment, adhering to safety protocols for chemical handling (IPA/Resin) and machinery.
• Collaborate with the design team to provide feedback on "Design for Additive Manufacturing" (DfAM) to improve printability.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience in a 3D printing production environment.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in CAD software (Onshape, Fusion 360, or Rhino) for minor file adjustments.
• Deep understanding of material properties (e.g., the shrinkage of ASA vs. the ease of PLA).
• Expertise in FDM hardware troubleshooting.
• Soft Skills: Strong project management abilities and a "maker" mindset—someone who enjoys solving physical puzzles and refining small details.
• Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related technical field (preferred but not required if portfolio is strong).
