Job description for VP of Engineering at Cinch
- Set the broad vision of the product as well as technology stack supporting it, cutting through complexity to present a simple future direction
- Plan and prioritize the backlog of product features and its development and implementation
- Lead a team of internal engineers, data analysts and external developers - develop their skills continuously, train new recruits and ensure best coding practices
- Develop high-level guidelines for training, documentation and internal development hygiene including version management and release management
- Determine the strategic direction of the startup’s engineering and technology
- Identify, recommend, and implement new technologies, tools and systems
- Establish, communicate, and implement engineering and development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations
- Plan and manage the tech budget
- Conduct or acquire cost analysis for development projects; prepare or delegate preparation of schedule of project completion dates
- Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and development to provide advice and input into solution architecture
- Act as a scrum master when necessary to manage flow of work and speed of development in an agile development environment
- Test the product after each sprint to assist the developers in the debugging and confirm the implementation accurately matches the designs and specifications
- Ability to effectively lead and motivate in-house and outsourced teams across a variety of functional roles
- Ability to simplify concepts and communicate them effectively across a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Broad understating of e-commerce, customer support solutions, analytics and risk systems, operational orchestration of multiple software solutions through integration
- Experience in an engineering or product management leadership role with hybrid focus on technology as well as business requirements
- Experience as a Back-End developer, and proficiency in PHP, Laravel, Container, MySQL, AWS server architecture
- Experience as a Front-End developer, and proficiency in HTML, Javascript and preferably in ReactJS
- Engineering related (or computer science) undergraduate degree
- Industry certifications in use of technology (e.g. TOGAF) highly desirable
