We are looking for a Strategic Procurement Associate who is commercially minded, analytical, curious, and proactive.

You should be comfortable working with numbers, asking difficult questions, identifying opportunities, negotiating with suppliers, and making recommendations even when the answer is not obvious.

At SMS Perkasa, we use data, technology, and AI to improve how we make decisions. We expect you to combine these tools with strong business judgment—not replace judgment with them.

SMS Perkasa is a growing steel and building-materials distributor based in Surabaya.

We operate in a traditional industry, but we are building the company differently.

What You Will Do

• Turn market information into procurement decisions. Monitor supplier pricing, availability, lead times, market movements, inventory levels, and customer demand to identify purchasing opportunities and risks.
• Use data and AI to improve decision-making. Work with internal data, dashboards, analytical tools, and AI to research markets, compare alternatives, identify patterns, and evaluate purchasing scenarios.
• Optimize purchasing, inventory, and margin. Help determine what to buy, when to buy, and how much to buy while balancing product availability, profitability, inventory risk, and working capital.
• Source and evaluate suppliers. Identify potential suppliers, compare quotations and capabilities, evaluate reliability, and develop a stronger and more competitive supplier network.
• Negotiate beyond price. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, quantities, delivery schedules, and other commercial terms that improve SMS Perkasa's overall position.
• Build supplier performance. Monitor supplier reliability, pricing competitiveness, delivery performance, quality, and responsiveness, and use the information to improve future sourcing decisions.
• Collaborate across the business. Work closely with Sales, Operations, Finance, and management to understand demand, anticipate requirements, resolve supply constraints, and support profitable customer opportunities.
• Execute with discipline. Ensure purchase orders, pricing, documentation, delivery coordination, and procurement data are accurate and properly maintained. Strategic thinking only creates value when execution is equally strong.
• Improve the system. Look for better ways to perform procurement through better processes, automation, analytics, supplier strategies, and decision frameworks.

You may be a good fit if you:

• Hold a bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or another relevant discipline.
• Are a fresh graduate or early-career professional with strong analytical and commercial potential.
• Enjoy working with numbers and turning data into decisions.
• Are naturally curious and tend to ask “why?”, “what if?”, and “is there a better way?”
• Can think critically rather than simply follow instructions.
• Have strong commercial instincts and are interested in how supply, demand, pricing, inventory, and cash flow interact.
• Are comfortable using technology and enthusiastic about learning how to use AI and data tools to work and think more effectively.
• Can communicate clearly and negotiate confidently with suppliers.
• Are proactive—you identify problems and opportunities instead of waiting to be told what to do.
• Can make thoughtful decisions when information is incomplete or conditions are changing.
• Pay close attention to detail and follow through reliably.
• Have high integrity and understand that procurement decisions require trust, discipline, and accountability.

Experience in steel or construction materials is helpful, but not required. We would rather hire someone with high learning ability and strong judgment than someone who simply knows the industry.
