Job Description
We are looking for a Kafka Developer to join our team and support our client in designing, developing, and optimizing event-driven systems using Apache Kafka to support reliable, secure, and high-performance real-time payment transaction processing.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop Kafka Producers, Consumers, Kafka Streams, and Kafka Connect.
- Design and optimize Kafka topics, partitions, retention policies, and data serialization such as Avro, Protobuf, or JSON.
- Develop and maintain real-time data processing pipelines for payment and fund transfer systems.
- Support payment processes involving clearing, fund transfer, and settlement.
- Implement reliable transaction processing using Exactly-Once Semantics (EOS) and transactional messaging.
- Implement fault-tolerant mechanisms such as retry, Dead Letter Queue (DLQ), and error handling.
- Monitor Kafka cluster performance, including consumer lag, throughput, and latency.
- Collaborate with engineering and payment system teams to ensure system reliability, scalability, and security.
- Develop and execute unit testing, integration testing, and load/performance testing.
Requirements
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience as a Kafka Developer, Software Developer or similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka and real-time/event-driven architecture.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language: Java, Scala, or Python.
- Preferred: Experience developing or implementing payment systems, payment gateways, core banking systems, or fund transfer systems.
- Highly preferred: Experience with payment processes involving clearing and/or final settlement.
- Good understanding of fund transfer and financial transaction processing.
- Familiarity with financial messaging standards such as ISO 20022, SWIFT, or other local/regional payment messaging standards is a plus.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle and/or NoSQL databases.
- Basic knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Kafka monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Kafdrop is a plus.
- Understanding of Kafka security mechanisms such as SSL/TLS, SASL, or similar is a plus.
