SENIOR SEAFOOD SOURCING & TRADING MANAGER – INDONESIA
Location: Jakarta / Medan / East Java / Sulawesi
Industry: Frozen Seafood / Seafood Trading & Processing
An established international frozen seafood trading company is seeking an experienced Seafood Sourcing & Trading Manager to develop and manage its sourcing activities in Indonesia.
The successful candidate should have strong knowledge of the Indonesian seafood industry and, importantly, an existing network of seafood processors, factories, fishermen/supply channels and exporters.
Product priorities:
1. Fish – primary focus (grouper, snapper, Mahi, Cobia,…)
2. Octopus
3. Squid / cuttlefish
4. Shrimp
5. Other frozen seafood products
Candidate requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in seafood sourcing, trading, purchasing, processing or export.
• Strong existing supplier and processor network in Indonesia.
• Good knowledge of Indonesian seafood species, production areas, seasons, raw-material availability and market pricing.
• Able to identify new suppliers and negotiate directly with factories/processors.
• Experience purchasing seafood for export markets strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of product specifications, yields, sizing, freezing, glazing, packing and quality requirements.
• Seafood processing/factory experience is preferred, although candidates with strong sourcing/trading backgrounds will also be considered.
• We are not looking for a purely sales/marketing profile without seafood sourcing or procurement experience.
• Good commercial and negotiation skills.
• Ability to visit factories and production areas throughout Indonesia.
• Good command of spoken and written English is essential.
• Candidates can be based in Jakarta, Medan/North Sumatra, East Java or Sulawesi.
Key responsibilities:
• Source fish, octopus, squid, shrimp and other seafood products throughout Indonesia.
• Develop and maintain direct relationships with reliable processors and suppliers.
• Monitor raw-material availability, fishing seasons and market prices.
• Negotiate purchase prices and commercial terms.
• Evaluate factories, production capabilities and product quality.
• Work with suppliers on specifications, processing methods, yields, packing and quality issues.
• Identify new products and sourcing opportunities.
• Provide regular market intelligence on Indonesian seafood supply and pricing.
• Coordinate with the company's international trading and quality teams.
Preferred profile:
We are particularly interested in candidates who have previously worked for a seafood processor/exporter, international seafood trading company, or seafood purchasing organization and who already have a strong network within the Indonesian seafood industry.
