Senior Architect — Bali
Design Assembly is looking for a Senior Architect to join our studio in Bali.
About Design Assembly Design Assembly is an international architecture and design studio specialising in hospitality and residential projects in tropical climates.
Founded in 2015, our work has grown primarily across Southeast Asia, with projects and collaborations now extending internationally.
Our practice is concept-led. We are interested in architecture shaped by place — by climate, landscape, culture, material and the way people move through and experience a project over time. Much of our work sits between architecture, hospitality, wellness and landscape, with a strong emphasis on spatial experience, local craft and creating buildings that feel grounded in their context rather than imposed upon it.
Our work has been shaped by years of experience in Indonesia, where climate, craft, material knowledge and outdoor living are deeply intertwined. We work closely with local makers, artisans and suppliers, and aim to create environments that are conceptually clear, spatially intuitive and specific to their place.
Our Bali studio works internationally, with an additional presence in the UK.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Architect with strong architectural and spatial design judgement to take a leading role within our Bali studio.
This is a hands-on senior position for someone who wants to be involved from the very beginning of a project — working directly with the Studio Directors to interpret a brief, explore site strategy, massing, spatial organisation and architectural ideas, and then help carry that thinking through design development, documentation and construction.
The role combines design, project leadership and team development. You will lead assigned projects and a small architectural team, while working closely with the Directors and alongside another Senior Architect with complementary strengths.
The role will include
- Developing architectural concepts, site planning, massing, layouts and spatial strategies in response to brief, site, climate, landscape and context.
- Leading projects from concept through design development, documentation and construction, in close collaboration with the Studio Directors.
- Managing and mentoring a small project team, allocating work and helping less experienced architects develop greater responsibility and independence.
- Overseeing design development and drawing packages, ensuring architectural intent is translated into accurate, coordinated and buildable documentation.
- Working with structural, MEP, QS and other consultants to coordinate the architectural design and resolve key project issues.
- Contributing to material, finish and construction-system selection, with a strong understanding of how design decisions perform in practice.
- Participating in client meetings, design presentations and key site reviews.
- Working collaboratively across the studio to strengthen both the design and technical resolution of projects.
We are looking for someone with
- Significant professional architectural experience, ideally including hospitality and high-end residential work.
- Strong architectural and spatial design ability, particularly in site planning, massing and the development of a clear concept.
- Experience taking projects from concept through documentation and construction.
- Strong technical and construction knowledge.
- Experience leading projects and mentoring small architectural teams.
- Confidence working with clients, consultants and contractors.
- A collaborative, thoughtful and accountable approach to practice.
- Experience working in tropical or climate-responsive environments is highly valued.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp, with strong working knowledge of architectural rendering and visualisation software.
