Deskripsi pekerjaan Mechanical Design Engineer PT Aerae Manufacturing Indonesia
# Mechanical Engineer — Actuation & Drivetrain
**PT Aerae Manufacturing Indonesia** · Kabil Integrated Industrial Estate (KIIE), Batam · Full-time, on-site · 5–10 years experience
---
We design and build precision electromechanical hardware in Batam. We are looking for a mechanical engineer to own actuator design end to end — torque budget, gear train architecture, detailed drawings, supplier qualification, and physical test.
This is a **robotics and precision-motion role, not automotive powertrain**. Low volume, high performance, fast iteration. We have an in-house prototype machine shop, so you will hold your parts within days of releasing the drawing.
Treat the list below as a description of the work, not a checklist you must already satisfy. If you have strong engineering fundamentals, a real work ethic, and a track record of getting hardware to function, we are glad to teach you the specifics you are missing — so apply even if you don't tick every box.
## Responsibilities
- Design and size actuator assemblies — planetary, cycloidal, strain-wave (harmonic), worm, and spur/helical reduction stages.
- Own torque, backlash, stiffness, efficiency, and duty-cycle budgets, and defend the trade-offs.
- Select and integrate motors, bearings, seals, brakes, encoders, and lubrication.
- Run gear rating and life calculations (AGMA 2001 / ISO 6336), bearing L10 life, shaft fatigue, and FEA where hand calcs fall short.
- Manage tolerance stack-ups and preload that control backlash and lost motion.
- Produce manufacturing-ready drawings with correct GD&T; drive DFM with our shop and outside gear suppliers.
- Design and run test rigs — dyno, backlash and hysteresis measurement, efficiency mapping, thermal and life testing.
## Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent.
- 4+ years designing geared actuation — robotics, industrial automation, aerospace actuation, medical devices, or precision motion.
- At least one gearbox or actuator you took to working hardware. Be ready to walk us through the ratio choice, tooth geometry, tolerances, and what failed first time.
- Solid gear fundamentals: module and pressure angle selection, profile shift, contact and bending stress, lubrication and heat generation.
- 3D CAD proficiency (SOLIDWORKS, Fusion 360, NX, or Creo) and drawings a machine shop can build from without follow-up questions.
- Comfortable in a workshop — measuring, assembling, instrumenting, and debugging your own hardware.
- Professional working English.
## Nice to have
- Strain-wave or cycloidal reducers, or other backlash-critical precision drives.
- KISSsoft / KISSsys / Romax or equivalent.
- Linear actuation: ball screws, roller screws, lead screws, rack-and-pinion.
- Motor sizing and how mechanical compliance interacts with closed-loop control.
- Qualifying gear and precision machining suppliers in China or Southeast Asia.
- Bahasa Indonesia and/or Mandarin.
## Why join us
Direct ownership of hardware with no layers between you and the decision. A small senior technical team from aerospace and advanced manufacturing. In-house prototype machine shop. Competitive compensation and health coverage.
## To apply
Send your CV plus a short description of one actuator or gearbox you designed — the requirement, your architecture choice, and what testing taught you. Applications without a specific hardware example are unlikely to progress.
