About Jogjakarta Community School
Jogjakarta Community School (JCS) is a small, internationally focused school in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. We are seeking an experienced Guidance / University Pathways Counsellor to guide our secondary learners through academic planning, university pathways, and future career options.
The Role
- The Guidance Counsellor will work with learners from Year 9, helping them understand their strengths, interests, and future goals, and supporting them through academic and university planning in Years 9–13.
- The role involves providing personalised guidance to help learners explore realistic pathways that align with their aspirations, including both university and alternative routes.
Key Responsibilities
- University and Pathway Counselling
- Guide learners from Year 9 in exploring their interests, strengths, and future goals.
- Help learners plan their academic, university, and career pathways.
- Support learners in researching suitable university options in Indonesia and overseas.
- Guide university applications, requirements, scholarships, and deadlines.
- Work with learners and families to develop appropriate post-secondary plans.
- Academic Planning
- Advise learners on Pearson Edexcel IGCSE and International A Level subject choices, ensuring they understand relevant prerequisites and how their choices may affect future university options.
- Monitor academic progress and work with learners, families, and teachers to address concerns, support academic challenges, and adjust pathways where needed.
- Learner and Family Support
- Build strong relationships with learners and families, providing proactive communication on progress, key decisions, requirements, and deadlines.
- Support learners in taking ownership of their future planning and developing a strong individual profile through extracurricular activities, internships, leadership, community engagement, and other relevant experiences.
- Application Support
- Guide learners through university research and applications, including timelines, admissions requirements, documentation, testing, personal statements, portfolios, and interviews.
- Maintain accurate records of learner pathways, applications, deadlines, and outcomes.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience in university, career, or student counselling, with knowledge of Indonesian and international university admissions.
- Has experience with international curricula, preferably Pearson Edexcel, Cambridge, or IB.
- Is a strong communicator who builds positive relationships with teenagers and families, and is proactive, organised, independent, and committed to supporting individual learner pathways.
Working Arrangement
This is a part-time position that can be primarily remote.
The role will involve regular online meetings with learners, online meetings and communication with families, collaboration with teachers and school leadership over roughly 2 days/week, and 2–3 in-person visits to JCS per term, where possible.
Flexible scheduling will be arranged around learner and family availability.
