Key responsibilities
- Design and own the architecture of backend services, APIs, and data models—making sound decisions on structure, patterns, and trade-offs for scalability and maintainability
- Translate product requirements into clear technical designs, specifications, and implementation plans
- Drive feature delivery through modern AI-assisted development workflows—directing, guiding, and iterating with AI development tools to ship at high velocity
- Critically review, evaluate, and refine code to ensure architectural integrity, performance, security, and long-term maintainability
- Step in hands-on to solve complex, novel, or critical engineering problems when needed
- Design clean, maintainable database structures and high-performance asynchronous systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver product features end-to-end
- Contribute to front-end development when needed, supported by AI-assisted tools
- Improve deployment workflows, system reliability, and engineering processes
Skills and requirements
Must have
- 4+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong depth in backend or full-stack systems
- Deep understanding of software design and architecture—API design, application/code architecture, and data/database modeling—with the judgment to make sound structural and trade-off decisions
- Strong command of backend fundamentals: RESTful API design, SQL database design, and high-performance asynchronous systems
- Proficiency in Python, with familiarity with frameworks such as FastAPI and SQLAlchemy—enough to read, evaluate, and modify code confidently
- Fluency with AI-assisted development tools and a proven ability to use them effectively throughout the development process
- Strong code review skills—able to read, assess, and improve code for correctness, quality, and architectural fit
- Experience building and operating production-level systems in Docker / containerized environments
- Strong research and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to independently explore and develop new solutions
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment, with strong adaptability and an ownership mindset
- Self-driven, proactive, and willing to continuously learn new technologies and tools
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of front-end development (e.g., Vue.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS)—enough to direct, review and troubleshoot front-end work, which is increasingly AI-assisted
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
- Experience working with cloud or DevOps environments
