Key Skills Required :
1. Translating Fashion Sketches
a. Pattern maker should have the ability to translate and create sketches from designer
and implemented to become clothing sample
b. A Pattern Maker should have creatively making a clothing pattern that’s comfortable
to wear, especially creating a men and women wearings
2. Creatively Making Basic Pattern
a. The pattern maker's accuracy in taking body measurements is supported by precision
and accuracy in determining and analyzing the position of points and body lines
b. The ability of a pattern maker to determine the accuracy of clothing pattern lines
c. The pattern maker's accuracy in choosing paper to make clothing patterns such as
dorslag paper, manila cardboard, or newspaper
d. The ability and accuracy of the pattern maker in marking and describing each part of
the clothing pattern, including :
i. Front and back pattern markings
ii. Thread or fabric grain direction markings
iii. crease or fold marks
iv. mark of the camp and the strip
v. hem mark
3. Have a specialty in skills
a. Construction Technic
b. Draping Technic
4. Have mastery and knowledge of pattern making tools
have knowledge, understanding and mastery of the types of tools needed to make clothing
patterns, both with construction techniques and draping techniques
5. Attention to detail
a. A correctly drawn and carefully measured pattern will produce a garment that fits the
order
b. On the other hand, if the measurements taken are not correct and the pattern image
created is also incorrect, the result obtained my be less than satisfactory
6. Understanding the characteristic of the fabric
Each material has different characteristic, by understanding the characteristics of each
fabric, a pattern maker can adjust it to the clothes to be produced
7. Have Sewing Skills
In addition to being skilled in makin clothing patterns, a pattern maker must also have
mechanical skills including sewing and cutting various types of fabric to support the
smooth process of making samples
8. Able to make samples
A pattern maker must be able to make samples according to the patterns that have
been made to minimize errors that may occur during the production process
9. Communicative
Communicative nature or being able to convey messages well, will help a pattern
maker in doing all his work because the process of making clothes in garments will
definitely invlolve many people
