DP COUNSELOR

Position Purpose

The DP Counselor provides academic guidance, personal support, and university and career counseling to help students navigate the IB Diploma Programme, make informed academic choices, develop personally, and prepare for their future pathways. The role works closely with students, parents, teachers, and school leaders to support student well-being, academic progress, and future aspirations.

Key Responsibilities

• Guide students in understanding DP requirements, selecting subjects, and planning appropriate academic pathways.
• Provide university and career counseling, including guidance on higher education options, admission requirements, scholarships, and career opportunities.
• Support students throughout university applications, including application timelines, personal statements, recommendation letters, and required documentation.
• Provide personal, social, and academic support, identify students’ needs or challenges, and coordinate appropriate support with teachers, parents, and school leaders.
• Collaborate with the DP Coordinator to guide students in understanding and fulfilling the requirements of the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).
• Communicate with parents regarding students’ academic progress, well-being, and future pathways.
• Maintain accurate and confidential counseling records and build relationships with universities and relevant external organizations.
• Uphold student safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.

Qualifications and Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field.
• Relevant experience in student counseling, academic guidance, or university admissions counseling.
• Familiarity with the IB Diploma Programme is an advantage.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Empathetic, approachable, responsible, and able to maintain professional confidentiality.
• Good written and spoken English.
