Position Summary
The Commis Chef is an entry-level position in the kitchen, responsible for basic food preparation tasks under the supervision of more senior chefs. This role is ideal for individuals starting their culinary career, providing the opportunity to learn and develop essential kitchen skills. The Commis Chef plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen by supporting the kitchen team in food prep, cooking, and maintaining cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of ingredients, such as washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning.
- Prepare basic dishes and components under the guidance of senior chefs.
- Follow recipes and instructions carefully to ensure consistency and quality.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation at all times.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment and tools are properly cleaned and stored after use.
- Assist in setting up and breaking down kitchen stations before and after service.
- Assist the Sous Chef, Chef de Partie, and other kitchen staff with daily tasks as needed.
- Take on additional responsibilities as directed, such as preparing simple dishes or garnishes.
- Learn and practice different cooking techniques and kitchen procedures.
- Adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure that all ingredients are stored, handled, and prepared in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
- Participate in regular cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen areas, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
