About the role
PT Aerae is an advanced-manufacturing and R&D company developing woven inflatable structures from high-tenacity HDPE/PE slit tape. We are commissioning circular weaving capability in Batam and need an experienced, hands-on technician who can set up, run, tune and maintain a circular loom (and its upstream tape-feed and creel), and who is comfortable working on non-standard tape specifications in an R&D setting rather than a high-volume sack plant.
Key responsibilities
Operation & setup
• Set up the circular loom for new fabric specifications: warp count and layout, weft density (picks/inch), shuttle count and configuration, tension settings, take-up speed.
• Load and manage bobbins on the creel; thread warps; splice and repair tape breaks with minimal downtime.
• Run trial weaves for R&D, record settings and outcomes, and adjust parameters to hit fabric spec (weight, density, seam integrity).
• Inspect woven fabric for defects (missing warp/weft, loose tape, selvedge issues, holes) and trace defects to root cause.
Maintenance & repair
• Carry out daily/weekly/monthly preventive maintenance: lubrication, cleaning, belt and heddle checks, shuttle and shuttle-wheel wear, cam and drive inspection.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults; replace wear parts (shuttle wheels, heddle belts, bearing blocks, tape guides, cutters).
• Basic electrical fault-finding on motors, inverters and sensors; escalate PLC/drive faults to the electronics engineer or OEM.
• Maintain a spare-parts list and reorder points; recommend critical spares to hold in Batam.
• Keep maintenance logs and downtime records; report to the Workshop Manager.
R&D support
• Work with the engineering team to adapt the loom to thin HDPE/PE tape (different friction, stretch and static behaviour from standard PP tape).
• Support commissioning of new equipment with OEM technicians; document procedures and build SOPs in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
• Train other workshop staff on safe loom operation.
Safety & housekeeping
• Comply with K3 requirements; lockout/tagout before maintenance; keep the loom area clean and free of loose tape.
Requirements
Education
• Minimum SMK (vocational secondary), Teknik Mesin, Teknik Mekatronika or Teknik Elektro preferred.
• D3 Teknik Mesin/Elektro is an advantage but not required — demonstrated hands-on loom experience matters more than a degree.
Experience
• Minimum 5 years hands-on with circular looms in a woven-sack / FIBC / tarpaulin plant, in a mechanic, technician or senior operator role. 10+ years preferred, ideally including responsibility for loom setup on multiple fabric specifications and mentoring of junior mechanics.
• Experience with at least one of: Starlinger, Lohia, Yongming, Hengli, W&H, or comparable Taiwanese/Chinese looms (4-, 6- or 8-shuttle).
• Experience on tape extrusion (tape line) or winders is a strong plus.
• Experience with HDPE/PE tape (not only PP) is a plus.
Skills
• Reads mechanical drawings and parts diagrams; uses measuring tools (vernier, micrometer, tension gauge).
• Basic electrical competence: multimeter, motor/inverter basics, reading a simple wiring diagram.
• Can systematically troubleshoot and document what was changed.
• Bahasa Indonesia fluent; basic technical English (OEM manuals, communication with expat engineers) is an advantage.
Other
• Willing to relocate to / be based in Batam (relocation support provided if from Java).
• Willing to work extended hours during commissioning and trial campaigns.
• Willing to travel for OEM training if required.
