Job description for Logistics Ops Warehouse Process Improvement Intern (6 months) at Applied Materials

Applied Materials is looking for a 6 months internship within Supply chain, Industrial engineering, or Operations management Diploma studies to join us!


About the role
This internship provides exposure to regional logistics operations while enabling hands-on project work at a 3PL site to improve process efficiency, data visibility, and operational performance.

Key responsibilities

Assist in process improvement projects at the 3PL warehouse (e.g., automation projects)

Conduct time studies / process observations to identify inefficiencies, root causes, and improvement opportunities

Support preparation of work instructions (WI), SOP updates, and training materials to standardize operations and reduce errors

Drive data collection and analysis for operational metrics (e.g. labor productivity, warehouse space utilization, aging inventory etc)

Participate in weekly/monthly operational reviews with 3PL and internal teams

Assist in investigation and closure of operational issues (e.g., 8D), including basic root cause analysis (RCA)

Work on cross-functionally projects (if any) with Internal stakeholders, and Transportation teams to ensure smooth execution and service recovery when needed


About you

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, basic formulas, charts); PowerPoint for reporting

Comfortable working with operational data and building basic trackers/dashboards (Smartsheet/Tableau is a plus)

Exposure to WMS/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Manhattan, Blue Yonder, or any WMS) is an advantage

Basic understanding of Lean / Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Pareto, Fishbone, 5S) is a plus

Strong documentation skills—able to write clear SOPs, workflows, and process maps (Visio is a plus)

Supply chain, Industrial engineering, or Operations management background
