Job description for Cadet-Operations at Sims Metal Management

Founded in Australia in 1917, Sims Limited (Sims) is a global leader in metal recycling and circular solutions for technology. We play a critical role in advancing circularity and decarbonisation by supplying recycled materials and re-purposed products that help preserve our planet.

At Sims, we believe in developing our people. With a strong promote-from-within philosophy and a range of programmes that support continuous learning, we offer opportunities for meaningful, long-term careers. Employing more than 4,100 people worldwide, we operate over 155 facilities across 13 countries. As an ASX-listed company, Sims provides the stability, transparency, and professional growth opportunities of a publicly traded organisation, all driven by our purpose: to create a world without waste.

Sims Metal (Sims) is a global leader in metal recycling. Sims plays an intrinsic role in the circular economy by supplying local and overseas steelmaking / smelting companies with furnace ready feed which helps reduce carbon emissions which is a key aspect of the Green Metal journey.

The Operations Cadet role is designed to develop future operational leaders within Sims through a structured rotational development program. The cadet will gain hands-on exposure across key operational functions of the business including Ferrous, Non-Ferrous, Maintenance, Weighbridge, Transport, Trading, Administration and Supervision.

The program aims to build operational capability, commercial understanding, leadership skills and a strong safety mindset to support future career progression within Sims.

You will be hands on at the start (yes, you will need to get your hands dirty), learning the intricacies of the scrap metal industry within our recycling facilities. This will hold you in good stead for a successful career with the world's largest metal recycler. This is a great opportunity to learn the business from the ground up.
