Job description for Sociology Teachers at Global Prestasi School Bandung
We are seeking a passionate and intellectually curious Sociology Teacher to join our Social Sciences department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction under the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) framework. Your goal will be to foster a deep understanding of social structures, global processes, and research methodologies, encouraging students to develop a critical and analytical perspective on the world around them.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging lessons that align with the Cambridge IGCSE and International A-Level Sociology syllabi.
- Curriculum Development: Create and update schemes of work that reflect current global social issues while meeting CAIE standards.
- Assessment & Feedback: Design, administer, and grade formative and summative assessments. Provide constructive feedback to help students master AO1 (Knowledge), AO2 (Interpretation), and AO3 (Evaluation) skills.
- Exam Preparation: Equipping students with exam techniques, time management strategies, and the ability to construct high-level evaluative essays.
- Differentiated Learning: Adapt teaching methods to support a diverse range of student abilities and English language proficiencies.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a stimulating, safe, and disciplined classroom environment that encourages academic discourse.
- Professional Collaboration: Participate in department meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school-wide professional development workshops.
Job Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Social Sciences, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Teaching Certification: A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, M.Ed., or equivalent).
- Language Proficiency: Native or near-native English fluency (minimum IELTS 7.5 or equivalent) as the medium of instruction is English.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience in an international school setting.
- Proven track record of teaching the Cambridge Curriculum (IGCSE & A-Level) with successful student results.
- Experience in teaching sociological research methods and theory (Functionalism, Marxism, Feminism, etc.).
Skills & Attributes
- Subject Expertise: Deep knowledge of core topics such as Family, Education, Religion, Media, and Crime & Deviance within a global context.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to teach students how to synthesize complex theories and apply them to real-world data.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in using Educational Technology (LMS, interactive whiteboards, and digital research tools).
- Interpersonal Skills: A collaborative spirit and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
