Job description for Senior AI Engineer — Cybersecurity AI Agents at SMARTM2M Indonesia
Role Summary
The AI Team at SmartM2M's Bandung Branch is building autonomous AI agents for the cybersecurity domain covering threat detection, triage, and response as part of the company's product roadmap. We're hiring a Senior AI Engineer to lead the design and architecture of these agents, carrying greater responsibility and higher performance expectations, and guiding the team's mid-level engineer. You'll set the technical direction for how LLM-based agents' reason over security data and orchestrate actions, how they integrate with security tooling, and how guardrails, evaluation, and monitoring are built in from the start so agents run safely and reliably in production. This role requires the ability to adapt quickly to incomplete or changing requirements, as the team is still shaping how these agents get built.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, architecture, and deployment of autonomous AI agents for cybersecurity use cases (threat detection, triage, and response)
- Develop, fine-tune, and evaluate LLM-based agents that reason over security data and orchestrate tools/actions
- Establish guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and monitoring to ensure agent safety, accuracy, and reliability in production
- Partner directly with security and product teams to translate cybersecurity requirements into agent capabilities, and guide the mid-level engineer's work
- Own performance, latency, and cost optimization; set documentation standards for experiments and stay ahead of AI and threat landscape developments
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years of experience, with hands-on experience building AI/LLM agents and applying them to cybersecurity strongly preferred
- Strong command of Python; agent frameworks (LangChain/LangGraph, tool use, orchestration); prompt engineering and RAG; PyTorch/TensorFlow; NLP; data pipelines; MLOps and cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure); APIs; Git
- Familiarity with the AI threat landscape: prompt injection, jailbreaks, data poisoning, model extraction, membership inference, adversarial examples, insecure tool/agent execution
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills; able to adapt quickly to incomplete or changing requirements and provide technical direction to others
Nice to Have
- Red teaming / offensive security experience
- Certs: OSCP, CISSP, cloud security certs; AI-specific certs are still immature
- Experience with guardrail systems, evals, and model monitoring
- Vulnerability assessment and penetration testing
