Job description for Purchasing Manager - Import at PT. Midas Talenta Gemilang
Midas Talent Match is currently partnering with a growing retail company to identify a Purchasing Manager – Import who can take ownership of international sourcing, purchasing strategy, and supplier performance.
This role goes beyond managing purchase orders and supplier follow-ups. The right person will be expected to understand what the business needs, when to buy, how much to buy, and from whom — using a combination of commercial judgment, market understanding, supplier relationships, and data.
The Role
- Lead purchasing and international sourcing activities, particularly with suppliers and manufacturers in China.
- Develop purchasing plans based on sales performance, inventory levels, stock aging, turnover, forecast, lead time, and business requirements.
- Analyze purchasing and inventory data to determine **reorder timing, quantity, purchasing priorities, and potential stock risks**.
- Source and evaluate new suppliers, factories, products, and potential international brands/principals.
- Lead commercial negotiations covering price, MOQ, payment terms, lead time, product specifications, and other supplier terms.
- Drive cost improvement and identify opportunities to improve purchasing efficiency and product margin.
- Manage end-to-end import purchasing processes, from sourcing and quotation through production, QC coordination, shipment, and supplier claims.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers.
- Monitor supplier performance, risks, and reliability, and take corrective action when required.
- Work closely with Commercial, Sales, Finance, Warehouse, and other relevant functions to align purchasing decisions with business needs.
- Stay informed on relevant product trends and sourcing opportunities, particularly within consumer and lifestyle categories.
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in purchasing import, international sourcing, or related commercial procurement roles.
- 5+ years at Manager / Assistant Manager / Lead level, with genuine decision-making and team or supplier management responsibility.
- Strong experience working directly with China-based manufacturers, factories, or suppliers.
- Business-level Mandarin is required for supplier communication and negotiation. English is an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating improvements in price, MOQ, payment terms, lead time, or other commercial conditions.
- Strong analytical capability in working with sales, stock, inventory aging, turnover, forecast, lead time, and historical purchasing data.
- Solid understanding of import purchasing, including MOQ, Incoterms, landed cost, supplier risk, costing, and product margin.
- Experience in consumer goods, fashion accessories, beauty tools, jewelry/accessories, lifestyle, toys, stationery, FMCG/non-food, or similar categories is preferred.
- Exposure to sourcing international brands/principals or developing distribution/import relationships is an advantage.
- Strong negotiation, commercial judgment, problem-solving, and follow-through.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Supply Chain, International Business, Mandarin, or a relevant field.
What Matters Most
We are looking for someone who can operate beyond transactional purchasing.
The ideal candidate can connect market demand → sales data → inventory → forecast → sourcing → negotiation → purchasing decision → commercial outcome.
A strong supplier network is valuable, but so is the ability to explain why a particular product should be purchased, in what quantity, at what timing, and under what commercial terms.
The role may involve supplier visits, sourcing trips, and international exhibitions, particularly in China, when required.
If you are an experienced purchasing and sourcing professional who combines strong supplier relationships with commercial thinking and data-driven decision making, we would like to hear from you.
