Job description for Moodle Developer at Look Media
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain custom Moodle theme using Mustache templates, SCSS, and JavaScript.
- Build and maintain Moodle local plugins for custom features (e.g. certificate system, notifications, gamification).
- Implement UI/UX designs from HTML mockups into pixel-accurate, responsive Moodle theme pages — including admin, report, and form-heavy pages, not just front-facing pages.
- Ensure all customizations follow upgrade-safe development practices (plugin-based, no core hacks).
- Debug and resolve styling/functional conflicts introduced by Moodle's core JS and legacy behavior.
- Work from structured tickets (Jira) with clear acceptance criteria and execute them accurately and independently.
- Collaborate closely with the design/PM lead and other developers to keep implementation consistent with the design system.
- Maintain clear technical documentation for every plugin/theme component built.
Requirements
- Proficient in PHP (OOP) with solid understanding of MVC-style architecture and templating systems.
- Comfortable working with Mustache (or similar templating engines like Handlebars/Twig) and SCSS/CSS.
- Direct experience building Moodle themes and/or plugins is a strong plus.
- Understanding of relational databases (MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL) and Git version control.
- Highly detail-oriented and able to follow detailed instructions and specifications precisely, without missing steps.
- Fast, responsive, and communicative.
- Strong critical thinking, not just follow instructions blindly.
- Willing to work under a 6-month contract, fully remote.
