Role Description
We are looking for an Media Relations Officer is the entry point of Occam’s media relations specialist track. In this dual role, you function simultaneously as a media relations trainee and as an Account Coordinator within the consultancy team. This means you contribute to day-to-day account operations while building the specialist media knowledge, journalist relationships, and industry fluency that will define your career. You work under close supervision, learning from senior media relations colleagues while developing the habits and discipline required to become an effective media relations professional
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Fresh graduate or a maximum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Proficient in written and spoken Indonesian and English.
- Genuine interest in the media industry; a regular reader of Indonesian and regional news publications.
- Strong attention to detail, organized, and reliable in following through on commitments.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced agency environment.
- Familiar with digital tools including social media platforms, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain targeted media lists for assigned accounts; keep contact records accurate and up to date; support the team in journalist outreach and follow-up.
- Set up and run media monitoring for assigned clients; compile daily and weekly coverage summaries; flag significant coverage to senior colleagues.
- Attend informal journalist meetings, press events, and media briefings alongside senior colleagues; assist in preparing materials for media gatherings and relationship programme activities.
- Draft basic press materials — press releases, media advisories, and backgrounders — under supervision to build foundational knowledge of journalistic writing and editorial conventions.
- Assist in compiling basic coverage reports with quantitative metrics under supervision; begin applying standard media measurement frameworks.
- Support account teams with administrative and operational tasks as part of the dual Account Coordinator function; manage personal task lists and meet deadlines reliably.
- Actively learn Occam’s media contact database, journalist engagement calendar, and relationship programme; contribute to programme logistics under supervision.
